2022 Player Outlook
The Padres don’t have a clear cut Closer at the moment. Pierce Johnson could be a candidate but either of the next two guys could be options as well. In 2021, Johnson had a 3.22 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 58.2 innings of work. He finished with a 3-4 record and nine holds. For 2022, it should be more of the same but Steamer does project Johnson to finish with 20 saves and possibly be the Closer for the Padres. He features great strikeout numbers and he’s largely going undrafted in most mock drafts. If he is named the Closer, then you have to expect his ADP to spike.
