2022 Player Outlook
In his first season with his hometown club, Musgrove posted career bests in ERA (3.18), strikeouts (203), and innings pitched (181.1). In just his second start with the Padres he tossed a no hitter against the Rangers where he also had ten strikeouts. Despite the stellar season he’s being drafted outside the top 20 starting pitchers. Musgrove could be a reliable SP2 in fantasy in the upcoming season if he continues the trend of Pittsburgh pitchers to find success elsewhere. Projecting him for 2022 is difficult because he closed out his final 17 starts with a 4.02 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Most projections have him returning a mid-3.00 ERA while averaging over a strikeout per inning with about 11-13 wins. He’ll be worth that at his current ADP.
