2023 Player Outlook

Mike Clevinger is familiar with the AL Central after his years in Cleveland and that may help him revive his career with the White Sox. He was ranked sixth among qualified starters with a 152 ERA+ from 2017-2019 with a near-elite strikeout percentage and wOBA allowed but it all came crashing down when his elbow went and then Tommy John surgery after a 2020 trade to San Diego. He missed all of 2021 and then dealt with knee pain for the majority of last year as his fastball velocity was down by nearly two mph and finishing with a 4.33 ERA/1.20 WHIP and a plummeting strikeout rate of 18.8% (4% below the MLB average).
