2022 Player Outlook
Injuries have gotten the best of Mondesi of late, sans 2020. In 2021, he served IL stints for a hamstring and an oblique, limiting him to just 35 games. In those games, he did hit six home runs with a .230 batting average and went 15-for-16 on the base paths. The speed is there, he has decent top-end exit velocity, but can he cut back on his career 29.9 percent strikeout rate? Trusting Mondesi in the fourth, fifth, or sixth round (depending on league size) of your draft is a risky proposition. He's a liability in the batting average department, largely in part to the elevated strikeout rate, but the power and stolen bases are legit. Can he stay healthy? That's the biggest question with Mondesi, as he's only played in more than 80 games once (2019) in his career. He could be a member of the 20/40 club over the course of the full season, but again, can he stay healthy? That is the question.
