2022 Player Outlook
McCullers went 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA (3.42 xERA), 1.22 WHIP and 27 percent strikeout rate over a career high 162.1 innings of work. He served a brief stint on the injured list last year with shoulder soreness, and the biggest bugaboo for McCullers thus far has been health. Since he entered the league in 2015, he has just one year where he's made more than 23 starts (2021), and just two seasons with more than 126 innings pitched (2018, 2021). If we had a guarantee of health, McCullers would shoot up draft boards. However, we cannot have nice things, so that can't happen. McCullers' upside is well-known, and he offers plus strikeout numbers, but if you draft him, you need to find some reliable workhorses to offset his inevitable injured list stint.
