2022 Player Outlook
Barnes has historically been a backup catching option since he made his debut in 2015. He’s never flashed a great batting average and he’s never hit double-digit home runs. In 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021 he appeared in at least 75 games in each season and he hit a total of 23 home runs in those four seasons. He needs a serious injury to Will Smith to see an increase in playing time and even if that does happen, we have enough of a sample size to know that he likely won’t do much with the extra plate appearances.
