2022 Player Outlook
Since the 2019 season, Syndergaard has logged 30 outs (10 innings). Syndergaard missed a good chunk of time due to Tommy John surgery and a myriad of setbacks, so what version of Syndergaard we get in 2022 is a big question that the Angels are paying $21 million to find out. This is a risky move for the Angels, and a great one for Syndergaard. The flamethrower gets a nice chunk of change in his pocket for a prove-it deal, but the Angels are paying $21M and forfeited a second-round pick to see if Syndergaard can capture his form. Remember, from 2015-2019, Syndergaard was a ground ball and strikeout machine, all while posting a 3.31 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.
