2023 Player Outlook

Zack Greinke, who began his professional career with the Royals way back in 2002 as the No. 6 overall pick, returned to his former home in 2022 and produced a 4-9 record with a 3.68 ERA/1.34 WHIP in 26 starts covering 137 innings. His measly 4.8 K/9 last year was a career-low and ranked as the worst K/9 of all pitchers who logged at least 130 innings. He did show nice control with a 4.6% walk rate, which was in the top 7% of the major leagues, and only gave up 14 home runs. Greinke should be named the Opening Day starter for the Royals for the second straight year and can hopefully eat up innings and be a veteran mentor to a youthful pitching staff.
