2022 Player Outlook
When it comes to Mike Zunino’s offensive production we’ve come to expect a low batting average and a lot of home runs. That’s basically what we got last season, but Zunino really kicked it up a notch in the power department. He set career highs in home runs, barrel rate (24.3), HR/FB rate (30.3), and his .216 batting average was Zunino’s highest since the 2017 season. It’s highly unlikely that Zunino will come close to matching last season’s barrel and HR/FB rates, but he possesses plenty of raw power and if he continues to get regular playing time this season, he’s a lock for 20 or more home runs. Based on his stellar defense, pitch framing skills and ability to handle a young pitching staff Zunino will almost certainly see regular playing time with the Rays this season.
