2022 Player Outlook
The shortened 2020 season for Profar actually went pretty well as he hit seven home runs, stole seven bases and slashed .278/.343/.428 in his first year with the Padres. He was pretty much on pace to hit 20 home runs, which he had done in 2018 and 2019. Last season he was more of a utility player for the Padres since he can play a variety of positions. His power dropped way off in 2021 with just a .320 slugging percentage and four home runs in 137 games. He still has some stolen base appeal which you may be able to find on waivers, but he could be detrimental in other departments. For the upcoming season, Steamer is projecting him for 11 home runs and nine steals. If he can continue to exercise patience at the plate, he likely sticks in the lineup but he’ll be a frustrating player to start at times.
