2022 Player Outlook
With seven straight seasons of declining opposing hitter contact rates Eovaldi continued to progress as a starting pitcher. He featured two pitches with sub-.200 BAA (Curve and Splitter) and was 12th among all qualified pitchers with a 20.9% K-BB%. In addition, Eovaldi’s FIP, xFIP, SIERA and xERA were all significantly lower than his actual ERA. Eovaldi finally avoided the IL and anchored the Red Sox starting pitching staff last season. He’s a strikeout pitcher with excellent control (led the league with a 1.7 BB/9) and always seems to deliver in big games. If he can make another 30 plus starts, double digit wins, and 200 strikeouts are definitely within reach.
