2024 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Gonzalez's 2023 season was cut short due to a forearm injury, but prior to the injury, he wasn't exactly fantasy relevant last year. Sure, he had a 4-1 record, but his 5.22 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and a 15.8 percent strikeout rate didn't do anything for fantasy managers. Let me encapsulate his 2023 season in one sentence. Per Baseball Savant, he had more metrics in the 15th percentile or lower, than he did in the 50th percentile or better. Gonzalez relies on inducing contact out of the strike zone, and ideally soft contact, but that didn't happen last season.

2024 Outlook: He's a pitch-to-contact left-hander who should provide innings for the Pittsburgh rotation, but fantasy managers won't benefit much from those innings. If things go well, he'll log 150+ innings, with a 4.50 ERA and miniscule strikeout rate, so with that in mind, he can be left off your draft board.
