2022 Player Outlook
Hicks’ season ended in May due to a wrist injury that required surgery. Up until that point Hicks had been struggling at the plate. Hicks was swinging at a high rate of pitches that were outside the strike zone. In addition, his walk rate was down and his strike out rate increased significantly. He also continued to have difficulties against breaking balls. He has a career .155 BAA against them, and they continued to be his Achilles heel. In all likelihood Hicks will be the Yankees’ Opening Day centerfielder but that doesn’t mean he should be on your fantasy roster. Hicks’ batting average has steadily declined since the 2017 season. In fact, he has had only two seasons in his career in which he’s batted .256 or higher. Injuries have also taken their toll. He’s only had two seasons in which he’s been able to play at least 123 games.
