2022 Player Outlook
The 2021 season was full of highs for Nelson, as he was flourishing in a relief role for the Dodgers. He posted a 2.18 ERA with the team last year, with an excellent 1.89 FIP and 0.93 WHIP. His 37.9 percent strikeout rate was exceptional, and when the opposition did find the ball, it resulted in just a 3.6 percent barrel rate. Nelson streamlined his arsenal and saw his curveball and slider both post a whiff rate north of 40 percent. However, what comes up and must come down, and Nelson unfortunately got hurt in August, and required Tommy John surgery, along with repair to his flexor tendon. We likely won’t see Nelson until the later parts of the regular season at the earliest.
