2022 Player Outlook
Upton's .211 batting average will try to tell you otherwise, but he wasn't bad in 2021, hitting 17 home runs, with 41 RBI, 47 runs scored, and his four stolen bases were the most he's put forth since 2018. He was limited to just 89 games last season, and as he continues to age, he seems destined to serve in a platoon role this season. After the All-Star break last season, Upton hit just .126 with a .442 OPS. Upton only hit southpaws at a .225 clip, but that was better than his .205 mark against righties, but he showcased impressive pop against lefties. His .838 OPS against southpaws was buoyed by an impressive 12.7 AB/HR mark in 2021. He's not getting any younger, and the injuries and mileage are starting to pile up for the veteran outfielder. He'll likely serve in a platoon role, getting the majority of his at-bats against southpaws in 2022.
