2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: 28-year-old right hander Jack Flaherty had spent his entire seven-plus year career with the Cardinals leading up to last year's trade deadline. In 2023, Flaherty pitched in 29 games, making 27 starts between the Cardinals and Orioles. He had an 8-9 record with a 4.99 ERA/1.58 WHIP, walking 66 and striking out 148 opposing hitters. This was certainly not the same Flaherty who was a Cy Young Award contender in 2019.

2024 Outlook: He will fill a spot in the rotation and take some pressure off of Tarik Skubal at the front and Casey Mize as he returns to the mound from Tommy John. The downside is that Flaherty has been a different arm than he was when he was a stud with the Cardinals and the last couple of seasons have seen him undergo major struggles. It will be an interesting season one way or another for Jack Flaherty and the Tigers.
