Astros signed RHP Fernando Rodney to a minor league contract.
The deal was reported to be close earlier this week and is now official. Rodney will be assigned to the club's alternate training site for now but figures to join the big league bullpen before long. If that happens, he will have played for his 12th different team. Jul 31 4:15 pm (EST)
- Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 reports that the Astros are closing in on a deal with free agent reliever Fernando Rodney.
- Rodney will be part of a closer-by-committee situation while Sean Doolittle (knee) is on the 10-day injured list, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
