2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (back, elbow), the first overall pick in 2018, has recovered from elbow and back surgery and will be ready to go after not pitching since April 14, 2022. He will have spring training to prove that there is anything left in the tank and deserving of a starter role, but an innings cap will probably be in place due to the long layoff.

2024 Outlook: Mize was the No. 1 overall pick in 2018, and after rolling through the minors, he gave the Tigers a solid rookie season in 2021: a 3.71 ERA/1.14 WHIP across 150 innings. The strikeouts were missing (118) and after the two starts in 2022 he was shut down for Tommy John surgery. Mize's fantasy value will be limited due to the innings limit making him a risky at best option in your fantasy drafts.
