Brandon Woodruff carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and completed seven shutout frames in the Brewers’ 4-2 extra-innings win over the Cubs.

The only runner to reach base through six innings do so on a throwing error by Daniel Robertson in the third inning. That runner was erased on a double play, so Woodruff had faced the minimum through six innings. The no-no was broken up when Ian Happ hit a solid single to the right side which managed to squeak through the shift. Woodruff rebounded to retire the next three batters. The right-hander needed a mere 74 pitches to navigate through his seven brilliant innings, striking out eight along the way. It was a mild surprise that he was pulled since he’d be so efficient, and Devin Williams served up a game-tying homer to the first batter he saw in the eighth, costing Woodruff a win. Woodruff will get a rematch against the Cubs at home next week. Apr 07 7:11 pm (EST)
