UFC Freedom 250 Predictions & Picks

Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje — Pick: Ilia Topuria KO

Topuria is on a massive winning streak, KOing some of the greats in the UFC including Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Charles Oliviera.  Gaethje is only a few fights removed from Max dominating him and KOing him at the bell so while Gaethje is known for his durability and cardio is slipping as he heads towards 40 years old.  Ilia is someone who will march forward and control the center of the cage while using his world class footwork to keep his opponents against the fence. I think Ilia gets it done early, and if this wasn’t the legendary chin of Justin Gaethje I would pick a Round 1 KO, but because I’m not too sure when it happens I’ll just go with the straight best.

  • Best Bet: Ilia Topuria Moneyline KO -220

Cyril Gane vs Alex Pereira

Alex looks to claim a title in a third division after holding the 185lb, and 205lb belt but a tough test stands in front of him.  Gane has the best movement in the Heavyweight division and decent wrestling which could be a factor here against Pereira.  Alex has power to KO any fighter in the UFC on any night, but he is going to be a little behind on the volume and this will be the first time in a while where he isn’t the man with the larger frame in the cage.  With the fight being outside at the White House I want to take the man with the better cardio and Gane has proven against Volkov, Nggannou, and many other fighters that he can go the full distance of a fight.

  • Best Bet: Cyril Gane ML -110

Josh Hokit vs Derrick Lewis

There aren’t many long shots that I like this week, but I’m confident in these bets.  Hokit just proved he has superior cardio and a great chin against Curtis Blaydes, and while a prime Derrick Lewis hits harder than Blaydes I don’t think this is a spot where Lewis will be able to use it. Lewis is slow, and aging showing against Cyril Gane that he can’t keep up with faster fighters.  Lewis always has a chance to land one massive shot and end anyone’s night, but more likely than not this is a fight where Hokit gets the fight to the ground and ends it early.

  • Best Bet: Hokit Inside the Distance -230.  I’ll also be sprinkling a small bet on Hokit by R2 KO.
