World Cup 2022 DFS Soccer Playbook December 17: Top DraftKings & FanDuel Picks
Saturday’s World Cup DFS slate is unique, in a couple of ways. First of all, we have the exact same four teams as the last slate, though the matchups are different. This slate also features the only rematch of the entire tournament, as Morocco and Croatia drew 0-0 in the first group stage game for both teams. France and Argentina is a rematch from the 2018 round of 16, with France winning 4-3. Given those two results, I think it is fair to expect the final to be higher scoring. That being said, the over has consistently hit in third-place games in the last several World Cups, so there could be some value if we find the correct goalscorers from the first game. The third-place game could also see some surprise starters as both teams are dealing with injuries and don’t have much incentive to push players that aren’t 100 percent.
2022 World Cup DFS Soccer Top Plays
Goalies | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK itsFPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Bono | MOR | CRO | 4300 | 7.01 | 9 | 10.30 |
France is the only team to score against Morocco outside of an own goal against Canada. Croatia had scored just twice in its last 4 games and Morocco already shut them out once in this tournament. Morocco's defensive depth will be tested but I like this pick so long as they don't try to play a 5-4-1 again.
Hugo Lloris | FRA | ARG | 4700 | 8.68 | 11 | 13.00 |
After struggling through the early stages of the tournament, Lloris has been great for fantasy in the last two games. I don't necessarily expect another clean sheet but this is a pretty good price for a handful of saves and a good chance at a win. |
Forwards | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Antoine Griezmann | FRA | ARG | 9000 | 15.48 | 19 | 21.92 |
Feel free to pivot to one of his teammates, especially in tournaments, but I will gladly lock in his production and shoot for upside elsewhere.
Nikola Vlasic | CRO | MOR | 5200 | 3.32 | 8 | 1.26 |
Vlasic hasn't started since the first Morocco game but he appears to be healthy again, and he had 7.6 DK fantasy points in 45 minutes against Argentina. He is a bit risky, but the price is right. It helps that he is a forward on DraftKings.
Lionel Messi | ARG | FRA | 11000 | 26.63 | 23 | 37.32 |
Mbappe's peaks have been better but nobody can match Messi's consistent production in this tournament. Even in the one game he didn't score a goal, he still finished with 20.9 DK fantasy points.
Angel Di Maria | ARG | FRA | 9400 | 10.68 | 13 | 10.48 |
He is reportedly fit enough to start, though that doesn't mean he will immediately return to the starting lineup. He had two chances created in all three starts, and while he is playable on both sites, he is one of my favorite punt plays on FanDuel.
Ousmane Dembele | FRA | ARG | 6900 | 9.03 | 16 | 12.32 |
This was going to be the slate I finally faded Dembele, especially after I was completely wrong about his involvement against Morocco. That being said, he created 11 chances in his first five games and his price has gone down on both sites. If you need another relatively safe attacker for FanDuel, Dembele is worth a look. |
Midfielders | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Hakim Ziyech | MOR | CRO | 7300 | 10.85 | 15 | 12.67 |
I liked it better when his price was lower, but he and Achraf Hakimi are still the only Moroccan outfielders we can trust for fantasy. Third-place games tend to go over the betting total and if that is the case, Ziyech could get his first attacking return of the knockout stage.
Ivan Perisic | CRO | MOR | 7900 | 11.31 | 16 | 15.07 |
I keep expecting Peresic and Luka Modric to run out of gas but it hasn't happened yet. You can pivot to Modric if you need to up I think Perisic is more likely to score and more likely to play the entire game, so I'll pay up for him.
Adrien Rabiot | FRA | ARG | 5100 | 9.41 | 14 | 14.92 |
Rabiot has scored at least 7.3 DK fantasy points in three of his four starts. I think there is a good chance he will jump in the attack and he will allow you to pay up elsewhere. |
Defenders | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Josip Juranovic | CRO | MOR | 5100 | 9.52 | 10 | 13.05 |
Juranovic only had two crosses in the first meeting, but he has at least four in each of his last four games. I think this game could be a bit more wide-open than the first, which makes Juranovic a good play on DK even if this is the most he has cost all tournament.
Jawad El Yamiq | MOR | CRO | 3800 | 2.85 | 9 | 9.54 |
Morocco had twice as many clearances as Croatia in the first game and I expect a similar result Saturday. Achraf Dari is a fine pivot if you need to save $1 but I expect both center-backs to be better for fantasy after Morocco had just three clearances against France.
Dejan Lovren | CRO | MOR | 3500 | 5.94 | 12 | 14.35 |
Lovren's best fantasy game came against Morocco. He led his team with five clearances and added three blocks, four tackles, and an interception. This isn't a great matchup for defenders, so I am fine paying up a bit for Lovren.
Raphael Varane | FRA | ARG | 2900 | 2.54 | 7 | 6.20 |
Argentina has allowed more tackles + interceptions than any team in this tournament, and while Varane hasn't had a ton to do in this tournament, there is a decent chance that changes in this game.
Josip Sutalo | CRO | MOR | 2900 | 0 | 5
Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic has said he won't risk any player who isn't completely healthy, so there is a good chance Sutalo makes his World Cup debut in place of Josko Gvardiol. Gvardiol has been solid for fantasy most of the tournament, and if Sutalo can come close to his production at minimum price, that would be huge.
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Yahya Attiat-Allah | MOR | CRO | 2800 | 3.88 | 8 | 8.18 |
Even though it seems like Morocco's attack always comes down the right side, Attiat-Allah has four crosses and four chances created in his last two games despite only playing 45 minutes against France. He looks like the best punt play on DraftKings.
Achraf Hakimi | MOR | CRO | 6000 | 10.9 | 12 | 14.45 |
Hakimi wasn't going to make this list because I think this is a lot to pay for a defender, but he is a perfectly reasonable play if you have less than $7000 to spend on your UTIL. His best fantasy game came against Morocco and he might be even more involved in the attack this time around. |
