This is yet another World Cup DFS slate that hinges on the stud players, but unlike a lot of other slates, there are really only two big-name forwards we need to worry about. Harry Kane reportedly trained without issue Monday but given his long history of being hobbled by leg injuries for a month at a time, I will let somebody else take a chance. Meanwhile, I will keep an eye out for a surprise starter or two who could come at a discount against Wales.

The other star to watch is Memphis Depay. He is one of the two most expensive players on both sites, mostly due to the matchup but also because he led Netherlands in goals and assists in qualifying. He has scored just 3.4 DK fantasy points in 73 minutes off the bench, but if he starts, you fade him at your own risk.

Hernan GalindezECUSEN49004.21117.25
Ecuador has been the better side through two games and I still don't trust Senegal to score against real competition with Sadio Mane out. You can pivot to Edouard Mendy if you need to save some money but Galindez looks like the better bet for a win and a clean sheet.
Alireza BeiranvandIRNUSA4100080.00
I still don't completely trust the USA team, and Iran is coming off a win and a clean sheet against Wales. Coming into the World Cup, Iran had conceded more than once in just 12 of 99 games under manager Carlos Queiroz. If they can
Jordan PickfordENGWAL57005.36139.00
England is +100 to win and get a clean sheet and you are getting Pickford at a bit of a discount compared to Andries Noppert.

World Cup Forwards

Forwards

Cody GakpoNEDQAT1060019.682229.90
If there is a cause for concern, it is that Gakpo has only taken two shots through two games. That being said, he scored on both shots, and he added 15 crosses and four chances created. I might pivot to Memphis Depay if he starts but Gakpo looks like the best player in the top tier on both sites.
Steven BergwijnNEDQAT73002.04170.65
I'm going to run out of excuses for Bergwijn pretty soon, but we can't ignore any starting forward who is facing Qatar, especially at his price. He is GPP only but he could easily provide some attacking returns.
Akram AfifQATNED72005.73144.50
I had hoped we would get him at a greater discount on DraftKings but I like his FanDuel price. Afif has three chances created through two games and I like his chances of creating a few more against Netherlands.
Mehdi TaremiIRNUSA840023.321838.95
He has probably been the best player in the group through the first two rounds. He scored both goals (albeit after the game was out of hand) against England and had eight chances created including an assist against Wales. USA has been good defensively but if anyone is going to break through against them it will probably be Taremi
Christian PulisicUSAIRN900017.02178.65
He is as safe as they come on DraftKings thanks to his spot on set pieces. He might actually be underpriced on FanDuel, though he only has three chances created through two games.

Timothy WeahUSAIRN68009.641614.50
He wasn't able to break through against England but he did have two crosses and two chances created. He costs just $100 more than he did Friday despite having what should be a much better matchup. If you need a mid-priced forward on DraftKings, Weah looks like the best bet.

Frenkie De JongNEDQAT49009.621716.90
He laid an egg against Ecuador, but so did most of his teammates. He has a knack for picking up assists even when he doesn't provide many other stats, and Netherlands should score plenty of goals against the hosts.
Ismaeel MohammadQATNED310016.341220.20
My only concern with Mohammad is that everyone is going to play him. Even if you ignore the assist, he had five crosses, a chance created and a shot on goal against Senegal. Netherlands got outplayed by Ecuador and let Senegal hang around and while I don't think Qatar can win this game, I expect them to generate some offense. Mohammad looks like a great punt play on DraftKings if he starts.
Davy KlaassenNEDQAT590011.571615.65
He has a goal and an assist through two games and he is facing the worst team to play in a World Cup in recent memory. Like most of his teammates, I prefer Klaassen in tournaments, but he seems way too cheap on DraftKings.
Ismaila SarrSENECU670011.781513.90
This might be his toughest matchup of the tournament but Sarr has at least 9.5 DK fantasy points in both games so far. I love his floor, even if I am frustrated by the lack of attacking returns.
Pervis EstupinanECUSEN630010.521316.00
He has 12 crosses and three chances created through two games. He is a solid play on FD, where he is listed as a defender, but I think his best place is in DK cash lineups.
MidfieldersTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Phil FodenENGWAL77001.5133.00
He had a cross and a chance created in 19 minutes against Iran. He is too cheap on FanDuel if he starts, and I would even consider him on DraftKings despite his higher price.

World Cup Defenders

Defenders
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Abdelkarim HassanQATNED41006.4196.70
This is a very expensive slate for defenders so I am going in the complete opposite direction with Hassan. He has three crosses, five shots and one chance created through two games and that is fine production at his price.
Harry MaguireENGWAL52008.621218.45
I think he is too expensive on DK, even if I don't hate the idea of chasing a set piece goal in tournaments. He is great for FD because he has proven he can score fantasy points in different ways. He returned value against Iran thanks to an assist and then nearly doubled his fantasy points against USA thanks to eight clearances. This last game will probably fall somewhere in between, which is just fine for fantasy.
Kalidou KoulibalySENECU32002.521214.50
Finding a safe defender for FanDuel who won't break the bank seems impossible on most slates but Koulibaly fits the bill. He has 15 clearances through two games and if anything, this should be a better matchup for fantasy than Qatar was.
Ehsan Haji SafiIRNUSA48007.8497.55
Hajisafi had two crosses against England and eight against Wales. If he lands somewhere in between against the U.S., he will be a find fantasy play on DraftKings. He is listed as a midfielder on FanDuel and while he managed just once chance created in both games, He is worth considering if you are in desparate need of a punt play.
Luke ShawENGWAL680012.881213.75
I don't know that I expect him to continue to outscore Kieran Trippier but so long as Shaw is cheaper on both sites, I am willing to role with Shaw. He has 11 crosses, three chances created and one assist in this World Cup.
