Friday’s World Cup DFS slate is our first opportunity to take what we have seen in actually World Cup games and apply it to our DFS lineups. Qatar no-showed against Ecuador and was probably fortunate to only lose 2-0. They face a Senegal squad that hung with Netherlands for most of the game but lacked finishing quality with Sadio Mane out. This game could be a route, but only if Senegal makes better use of its opportunities than it did on Monday.

2022 World Cup DFS Soccer Preview November 25

England is coming off a six-goal game against Iran, which could be more than they score for the entire rest of the tournament. England has traditionally struggled to generate goals from anyone outside of Harry Kane and if Kane’s ankle injury keeps him out, USA could have a real chance.

For their part, the U.S. is coming off a disappointing draw with Wales and they need better scoring from their attackers as well. Iran had success with direct balls behind the defense and USA could do that as well, though they will have to take more chances than they did against Wales.

Finally, Netherlands will probably look to do against Ecuador exactly what they did against Senegal: defend well enough and rely on Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong to generate chances.

Goalkeepers

Edouard MendySENQAT5400-1.5414-2.00
Qatar only generated 0.3 xG against Ecuador, and while they could play better now that they have a World Cup match under their belts, I don't expect them to generate many chances against Senegal. For their part, Senegal went toe-to-toe with Netherlands for most of the match, and they should be a good bet for a win and a clean sheet.
Andries NoppertNEDECU520018.361229.00
I think there is a very good chance this game is similar to Netherlands' first game against Senegal. I think Ecuador is probably good enough defenisvely to hang with the Netherlands for a while but I think their finishing is just as poor as Senegal's. netherlands is actually more heavily favored to win than Senegal, and even though they are less likely to keep a clean sheet, I think it is worth saving some money.
Saad Al SheebQATSEN3900-2.727-2.00
Betting on Senegal's inability to finish is rarely a bad idea. Ecuador backed off in the second half but Senegal might not have that luxury so even if Al Sheeb concedes a couple of goals again, he could get some more saves to even it out.

Ismaila SarrSENQAT720014.081917.20
I thought Sarr looked great against Netherlands, generating four chances and drawing four fouls. He will probably be in most lineups Friday but I still don't see how I could fade him.
Timothy WeahUSAENG670015.541523.00
Iran had some success (albeit after the game was decided) with direct balls behind the defense. That is how Weah scored against Wales, and while he is risky, I think he has a chance to do it again Friday.
Raheem SterlingENGUSA790019.52030.00
Wales had a lot of opportunities in the second half with wingers running at defenders one-on-one and if Sterling gets in that situation, I trust him to take advantage. I might pivot once I see starting lineups but I will probably want some England attackers in my lineup and given the uncertainty with Harry Kane and Callum Wilson, Sterling is my choice.
Cody GakpoNEDECU960024.241831.60
I had no idea Gakpo sent in 13 crosses, but I have no reason to believe he will be much worse than that against Ecuador. I think I prefer him on DraftKings due to his forward eligibility but his price is nice on FanDuel as well.
Steven BergwijnNEDECU73002.3161.30
I thought Bergwijn played better than his numbers indicated, and his price is reasonable on both sites. I can't trust him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he scores against Ecuador.

Akram AfifQATSEN71003.02143.00
Edouard Mendy looked shaky at times against Netherlands and in the unlikely event anyone can take advantage for Qatar, Afif stands a good chance to be involved.
Midfielders
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Frenkie de JongNEDECU480015.461519.50
His statistical impact never seems to match what I see with my eyes, but he is still cheap for someone with three assists in 17 games for Netherlands in 2022.
Iliman NdiayeSENQAT580009
I'm still holding out hope that Ndiaye will get a start, especially considering how badly Senegal needed an attacking threat against Netherlands. He is too cheap on FanDuel and is a strong play on DraftKings as well.
Idrissa GueyeSENQAT40005.2126.30
He had five crosses and two shots (one on goal) against the Netherlands and split corner kicks. He is pretty much a must-play on DraftKings but I think he will generate some chances against Qatar, which makes him a strong play on FanDuel as well.
Christian PulisicUSAENG900021.681613.00
As I said above, I think USA can find success similarly to how they scored against Wales, and Christian Pulisic recorded the assist on that goal. If I trusted Harry Kane's ankle or if Memphis Depay's impact as a substitution was reflected in his fantasy points Pulisic probably wouldn't make the Playbook, but I think he is good enough and important enough to the U.S. to return value even in a very tough matchup.
Defenders
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Tim ReamUSAENG29003.361010.40
Ream looked good against Wales and I expect him to start and provide defensive stats against England. Whoever starts with him at center back will be cheaper and thus worth considering, but Walker Zimmerman conceded the penalty that led to the draw and the rest of the options are unproven at best.
Bassam Al RawiQATSEN26003.441112.10
Al Rawi had seven clearances against Ecuador, and I don't see why he would be called on to do less against Senegal. There are certainly higher upside defenders but Al Rawi should be as safe as they come on FanDuel.
Antonee RobinsonUSAENG46006.56108.20
As expected, Robinson was one of USA's best attackers against Wales. I expected his price to be lower against England, but its not like there are many cheaper players I am lining up to play ahead of Robinson.
Youssouf SabalySENQAT480010.71224.40
Sabaly didn't send in as many crosses as I expected but he did have two shots and three chances created against Netherlands. I really expected him to cost a lot more considering this is basically the best possible matchup.
Kieran TrippierENGUSA770011.161512.10
The U.S. will almost certainly defend better than Iran did, which means that England will likely need to lean on Trippier more than it did Monday. Trippier had six crosses and a chance created Monday and if Harry Kane is out, Trippier is England's best bet for a goal involvement.
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Harry MaguireENGUSA410011.321112.60
Maguire didn't score like I thought he would but he did get an assist and he looked dangerous at times against Iran. The U.S. doesn't really have anyone who can contend with Maguire in the air and I love his chances of scoring from a corner or free kick.
