Tuesday’s World Cup DFS slate is the last of the Round of 16, and also looks to feature the closest matchups on paper. We finally got one close game Monday with Croatia defeating Japan on penalty kicks, while Brazil scored four goals in the first 36 minutes to cruise to a 4-1 win over South Korea.

Portugal and Spain are rightfully big favorites, but they face tougher opponents than the traditional powers who advanced rather easily to the quarterfinals. Switzerland has already defeated Portugal once this year, 1-0 in one of their two Nations League matches, though they lost 4-0 in the other. Switzerland has won four of its last six matches in all competitions, with the losses coming in a friendly against Ghana before the World Cup and in a respectable 1-0 loss to Brazil in Group G.

Morocco for its part was one of the most impressive sides during group play, taking seven points from a draw with quarterfinalist Croatia and wins over Belgium and Canada. Spain is probably better than all of those teams but Morocco could represent their toughest test to date as well. With two potentially close games, I’m not as desperate to pay up for the top-tier studs as I have been in the last few slates. That being said, forwards are again hard to come by on DraftKings so you may have to pay up for them and go relatively cheap at the other positions.

2022 World Cup DFS Soccer Top Plays

Goalkeepers

Yann SommerSWIPOR410013.65920.75
He has 30 clean sheets in 76 starts for Switzerland, including one against Portugal in the Nations League this summer. I don't love anyone's chances of a clean sheet against Portugal but Sommer should continue to rack up saves.
BonoMORESP39005.3778.75
Morocco allowed just one goal in the group stage and I think they are good enough defensively to give Spain trouble. This is obviously risky but I still don't completely trust Spain's forwards.
Forwards
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Ferran TorresESPMOR820011.61814.33
He is a forward who will send in a few crosses and won't break the bank on DraftKings. That is all we are looking for at a pretty rough position.
Midfielders
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Hakim ZiyechMORESP800014.661519.87
I would love to know what Ziyech needs to do to see his price rise on FanDuel. This is almost certainly his toughest matchup of this tournament but Ziyech has a goal, an assist and four chances created. I think Morocco is good enough to keep this game competitive at the very least and Ziyech is their best fantasy player.
Bruno FernandesPORSWI920028.712237.25
Only two teams have allowed more crosses per game than Switzerland so if there was ever a time to play Fernandes on DraftKings, this is it. With four attacking returns through two games, he is a great play on FanDuel as well.
Xherdan ShaqiriSWIPOR770015.141316.50
Shaqiri had just one crosses against Serbia after he had nine against Cameroon, but he made up for it by scoring a goal. Shaqiri isn't as safe as Hakim Ziyech but I like his matchup better, and he is very cheap on FanDuel.
Ruben VargasSWIPOR49007.84109.87
Vargas had 13 crosses and five chances created in the group stage. He is a nice punt play on both sites.
Dani OlmoESPMOR940016.622021.97
Olmo might be as safe as Bruno Fernandes, but he is elegible at forward on DraftKings. Going cheap at forward is a complete shot in the dark, so I will pay up here and try to save money elsewhere.
MidfieldersTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Abdelhamid SabiriMORESP51004.44118.37
Sabiri is averaging 2.73 chances created per 90 minutes in this tournament. He is a bit risky, especially since most of his production came in 22 minutes against Belgium, but it is hard to ignore his production at this price, especially on FanDuel.
Defenders
PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Raphael GuerreiroPORSWI48008.79119.95
He outscored Joao Cancelo in both of the games they played together but Guerreiro is still cheaper. If Guerreiro is out, I will pivot to Joao Cancelo. Let somebody else chase one-game-wonder Diogo Dalot.
Jordi AlbaESPMOR650012.071213.00
I would love to go cheap here and pay up elsewhere but you do so at the risk of getting shut out. Alba had four crosses , a shot and a chance created in just 22 minutes against Japan and he should be nice and fresh for this game.
Silvan WidmerSWIPOR42006.991317.27
He didn't have a single cross against Brazil, but Brazil doesn't allow crosses to hardly anyone. Widmer had 7.9 DK fantasy points in each of his other two group games and he was even more consistent on FanDuel. He is a reasonable punt play on DraftKings and worth spending up for on FanDuel as well.
Noussair MazraouiMORESP47004.841012.43
Mazraoui is averaging 4.07 tackles + interceptions and 3.70 clearances per 90 minutes. No team has allowed more tackles + interceptions than Spain, and Mazraoui looks like the best value in Morocco's defense.
