PGA DFS Coverage for The American Express

The PGA Tour finally leaves the beautiful islands of Hawaii and flies 2,664 miles to La Quinta, California for the American Express.   PGA West plays host to this event which is played over their three courses on property.  This event typically does not bring out a great field but we will see ten of the Top 20 players in the world tee it up this weekend.  The list of past champions at this event is not exactly a who’s who of PGA Tour players.  Hudson Swafford won this tournament in 2022 for the second time in his career.  He will look for the hat trick this weekend with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele in the field.

The Field: The American Express

We’ve got our second full-field event this weekend in California. The 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler, 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Cameron Young, and 2022 three time winners Tony Finau and Sam Burns are all in the field. Jon Rahm returns to action after his victory at the Sentry. Best buds Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele both playing at PGA West with Schauffele teeing it up for the first time in 2023 after withdrawing from the Sentry with an injury. Young up-and-coming star Sahith Theegala is a hometown boy and played his college ball at Pepperdine. Tom Kim has a chance at redemption this weekend after his missed cut at the Sony. Other names to watch are Andrew Landry, Bill Haas, Brian Gay, and Adam Long.

The Courses: PGA West

This tournament is played over three courses at PGA West. The Stadium, the Nicklaus, and the LaQuinta Courses each will be played once by all of the players in the field and then there will be a cut after those 54 holes. The final round will be played on the Stadium course. The Nicklaus and LaQuinta courses are considered to be the easier tracks and where these players need to score before taking on the Stadium. We will see the Pro-Am return this weekend which will change the flow of the tournament.

The Weather: LaQuinta, California

It has been raining for days all over California. I know a lot of residents haven’t seen this much rain in years. The positive news is that things seem to be clearing up just in time for this event. Looking at the forecast, we should see temperatures in the low 60's throughout the weekend with sunny skies.

How To Watch the American Express

The American Express will be played on the west coast which makes the time zones a little more normal this week. It will be very easy to watch the tournament which will air Thursday through Sunday from 3-7pm ET on the Golf Channel.
