PGA DFS Coverage for THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

The Florida swing continues as the players head a little over two hours north to Ponte Vedra Beach for THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP.  The event known as the unofficial fifth major on the PGA Tour schedule is played at TPC Sawgrass with the signature 17th hole.  The island green is a draw to the casual golf fans, but the regular viewers know that this course will challenge all of the players' game.  It is another one of the “designated events'' with a major field participating this weekend which should provide us with plenty of drama.

The Field: THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

We will see 43 of the Top 50 players in the world golf rankings participating at TPC Sawgrass over the weekend.  There are eight former PLAYERS champions like Justin Thomas, Rory McIlory, Si Woo Kim, and Jason Day to name a few.  We’ve also got six FedEx Cup champions and all 14 winners on the PGA Tour this season.  This is another “designated event” on the PGA Tour which means  the Top 20 golfers in the Player Impact Program from 2022 are required to play.  Each of those players are allowed one skip during the course of the season.  The purse for this event is once again 20 million dollars and the winner will take home 3.6 of it.

The Course: TPC Sawgrass

This course begins and ends with the signature 17th hole.  It is one of the true island holes on the PGA Tour schedule.  That hole has ended a lot of players’ chances of winning this event over the years.  It sits as a Par 72 and is 7,275 yards long.  While those dimensions don’t seem daunting, the course was designed by Pete Dye.  He has been known to create some of the trickiest courses across the country and this one is no different.  The winner of this event has come in around 15 under par.  Like most courses in Florida, you need to avoid the water and keep the ball on the fairway to have any chance of winning.  While it won’t be as hard as Bay Hill, this track will test these players.

The Weather: Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida

We should see temperatures in the 70s throughout the weekend with the typical Florida humidity.  While rain does not look to be an issue most of the weekend, they are calling for some Friday evening into Saturday morning.  We could see some really wet conditions after the cut.  The winds look pretty lame for being along the coastline peaking in the low teens.  Overall, the weather should not be much of a concern.
