NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/8

Minnesota Wild vs Seattle Kraken Prediction

The Seattle Kraken are currently on a five-game losing streak and show no signs of improvement. Throughout the season, they have struggled to score goals, but recently, they have also had difficulty keeping the puck out of their own net. While Minnesota isn't known as a high-scoring team, their goaltending has been impressive. Although they have stumbled in their last two games, this matchup presents a great opportunity for them to rebound against a weaker opponent. We’re confident they will cover the Money Line.

Goalie of the Day: Dustin Wolf - CGY

I’m not usually a fan of paying a premium for a goalie on a team that struggles to score goals, but I’ll make an exception for Dustin Wolf. While his overall numbers aren’t impressive, he excels at home with a 1.91 GAA and a .932 SV%. The Sabres are underperforming, and I have little confidence in their goaltending. I anticipate this game will be low-scoring, but I believe Wolf and the Flames will come out on top.

Honourable Mention: Filip Gustavsson - MIN

Filip Gustavsson is expected to start for Minnesota, and his performance on the road has been above average. As previously mentioned, Seattle struggles to score and does not generate many shots. Therefore, if Gustavsson fails to secure a win, he is unlikely to provide value. This also means he won't achieve the save bonus. If you want to minimize exposure to the Wolf, Gustavsson is the next best option.

Player of the Day: Nikita Kucherov - TBL

The Maple Leafs are currently without two goalies and are relying on Dennis Hildeby. He has performed decently in his first few games, but the Tampa Bay Lightning have a potent offense. Nikita Kucherov is the player who drives their attack. His performance on the road has been strong, and he is consistently involved in scoring. Toronto has struggled with defense all season, so stopping Kucherov may prove to be a challenging task. It's likely that he will finish the night with multiple points.

Honourable Mention: Dylan Larkin - DET

This is an excellent opportunity for Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings. The Vancouver Canucks are dealing with injuries, and their goalie, Kevin Lankinen, has struggled to stop shots effectively. Additionally, the Canucks have a weak penalty kill, and Elias Pettersson might not play in this game.

While the Red Wings have difficulties in defence and tend to allow too many goals, they also have the ability to score. This presents a great chance for several of their players to make an impact. Larkin is performing at a top level and has been accumulating points since the season began, making him a strong choice in all formats.

Value Play of the Day: Morgan Frost - CGY

Morgan Frost is currently skating on the top line and the top power play unit, but he has yet to produce points. His ice time is decent; however, it doesn't compare to that of other centermen. Frost is priced at $3,700 on DraftKings and is set to face the Sabres, a team known for allowing plenty of goals. While Frost is a risky choice, as long as he continues to receive good ice time and plays alongside the team's best players, we can't overlook him. He could be a worthwhile option in a GPP if you're looking for a budget-friendly forward.
