Happy Monday to everyone out there in the sports betting space, I hope the weekend was a great one! A new week in always nice in the NHL as you can take it in without the massive slate we normally get starting on Tuesdays. There are just 4 games tonight in the NHL but don't let the light slate fool you there's some big time matchups with trends to follow and wager on. Today's article will feature a pair of bets, a Money Line and a game total. The Dog of the Day is taking today off sadly but don't freight it will return tomorrow! If you like the rationale then tail the picks, if you don't feel free to fade as sometimes the best bets are the ones not taken!

NHL Best Bets for January 8th

Boston Bruins vs Colorado Avalanche

Its a smaller slate tonight in the NHL but we will still see a big time matchup between two of the very best teams from their respective conferences. It would be a tricky game to try and pick a winner, although I do favor the Avs at home but let's instead look towards the game total. Colorado has scored 22 goals over their last 5 home games heading into tonight and overall they have hit the over in 3 straight games. The goaltending has been an issue too with Alexandar Georgiev leading the way with his 2.98 GAA and sub .900 SV%. On the Boston side they skew towards the under in most games but on the road they are an even 10-10 on each side of the total but recently they have been getting into firework matchups with 41 goals scored in the last 5 games they've played in. I like that to continue tonight as each team will be up for a big game like this, let's ride the over.

Pick: Bruins & Avalanche Over 6 Goals (-115 on BetMGM)

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers

One of the best rivalries in the NHL is renewed once again tonight as the Penguins head to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers! This will be the 3rd matchup of the season between these two teams already with the Flyers winning the first two of the series, both of which were one goal games. Much has changed since those meetings however as the Penguins are finding their groove with 8 wins over the last 11 games and the Flyers have dropped 6 of their last 8 contests. Looking back at the recent history of these teams too, there's almost never a season sweep so I expect things to swing back Pittsburgh's way. It will be a tight game and that's reflected by the the lines but with the Flyers scoring just 11 goals in their last 5 games it'll be tough to take down a Pens team that is scoring the way they are right now so Pittsburgh Money Line, lock it in.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins Money Line (-125 on BetMGM)
