NHL Best Bets for January 23rd

New York Rangers at San Jose Sharks

There much written about teams from the East Coast going West and having issues but there are exemptions to this rule especially if you play the Sharks. Tonight the Rangers try to shake off a rough last 10 games winning just 4 by heading to the Shark tank to take on San Jose who beat the Kings less than 24 hours ago. I like to target teams on a back to back if you have read this article most of the season and tonight is no different as the Sharks are 7-14 at home on the season. They are also 20-27 against the spread this year and have scored just 2 goals per game over the past month in California. The Rangers on the other side are 14-11 against the spread on the road and are 14-11 straight up but given the juice on the odds we will have to take the Puck Line tonight. I think the Rangers take advantage of a tired Sharks team and their backup goaltending so give me the Rangers and let's lay the -1.5 goals.

Pick: New York Rangers Puck Line -1.5 (-120 on BetMGM)

Washington Capitals at Minnesota Wild

Time to look at a game total for tonight's slate and this one popped out right away as one to target. The Capitals have been one of the lowest scoring teams on the road all season with just 2.25 goals per game, the 4th fewest in the NHL. To their credit though the defense has been in lockstep at least as they've given up 3.05 goals per game. Not a winning formula for sure, but a way to keep totals low and for Washington they have gone under the total in 12 of 20 road games this season. On the Wild side of this game they are scoring 2.3 goals per game at home over the past month and have gone under the total in 12 of 22 games this season. I think we get a good game tonight but I just don't see an explosion of goals so give me the game total and let's fade it to the under.

Pick: Capitals & Wild Under 6 Goals (-115 on Caesars)

Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers

With so many crooked lines on the board tonight let's turn to a player prop for a juicy matchup in Edmonton tonight. The Blue Jackets have been one of the most generous defenses all season long allowing 3.89 goals per game on the road. This makes me interested heavily in the Oilers offense and one player in particular, Leon Draisaitl! The All star forward has scored a goal in 10 of last 15 games heading into tonight for a hit rate of 67% and I see him scoring again as he has a great track record against the Blue Jackets as well. He will be on the ice 20+ minutes and will be part of the top powerplay unit, seeing as the Oilers are scoring 4 goals per game over the past month at home, Draisaitl to score a goal seems like a sharp bet to me!

Pick: Leon Draisaitl Anytime Goal (-105 on BetMGM)

DOG OF THE DAY

Vegas Golden Knights Money Line vs New York Islanders (+130 on DraftKings)
