What a roll the NHL Best Bets have been on since the calendar switched to 2024! I know that October and November were rough months but if you stuck it out you are now reaping the rewards of relevant data and analytics. I am now 15-8 over the past 14 days and looking for more and this Tuesday slate of 8 games should give us just that! If you like the rationale then tail the picks, if you don't feel free to fade as sometimes the best bets are the ones not taken!

  • Season Record: 74-62-3

NHL Best Bets for January 16th

Colorado Avalanche at Ottawa Senators

The Avalanche are putting together their best Oilers impression from the last few years on lately because wow their games are out of control! This season the Avs have scored 3.66 goals per game, the 2nd most in the NHL while allowing 3.7 goals per game over the past month on the road. Those are overall stats for a barn burner if I have ever seen one. On the home side the Senators have scored 4.3 goals per game in the past 30 days while allowing 3.8 goals. The Senators have gone over the game total in 13 of 19 games at home overall and the Avs have blasted past the total in 26 of 44 games. The total is high at 7 goals but given these two teams and their goaltending/defense issues I can't play anything else but the over!

Pick: Avalanche & Senators Over 7 Goals (+105 on BetMGM)

New York Islanders at Winnipeg Jets

I got sucked into the Islanders yesterday and they were awful losing 5-0 to the Minnesota Wild! That will not be the case today as the numbers confidently side with the Jets at home where they are 15-6-2 on the season. The Islanders just don't do anything well anymore, the offense is average on the road with 2.6 goals over the past 30 days and the defense that was once feared is allowing 3.8 goals per game! That adds up to the fact that Islanders are 8-13 straight up on the road this season and one more thing, they are playing back to back nights. The Jets on the other hand are allowing just 1.7 goals per game at home over the last month and are on top of the Central Division as of today. The Money Line is too much chalk of course but taking Winnipeg to win in regulation is much better so that's the play.

Pick: Winnipeg Jets 60 minute Money Line (-125 on Caesars)

Seattle Kraken at New York Rangers

With no more matchups that I love on this slate let's take a peak at a player prop shall we? The Kraken on the road have allowed 34.3 shots on goal per game over the past 30 days, in addition to that they are traveling on a back to back after getting rolled by the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday. The Rangers are in a good spot given these variables and I am looking down the lineup and love the play of Alexis Lafreniere tonight with shots on goal. He has gone over his line of 2.5 shots in 8 of the past 10 games and is 73% in the past 15 games on the over. The Kraken aren't as deep right now as normal and Laffy should have an opening to get some big time production.

Pick: Alexis Lafreniere Over 2.5 Shots On Goal (-120 on BetMGM)
