Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. The injury report is going to keep you up to date on all the important injuries going on around the league, and how that might affect your fantasy hockey team. Make sure to check back regularly for any updates. Let’s take a look at some players that are either ruled out, or that we need to monitor.
John Gibson - Anaheim Ducks - Illness
John Gibson missed Friday’s game due to a non-COVID-19 illness and is considered day-to-day. It was thought that he would be able to serve as the back up in that game, but that was not the case. It doesn’t sound like anything serious and the veteran netminder should be back in action sooner rather than later.
Trevor Zegras - Anaheim Ducks - Upper-body
Trevor Zegras was also out of the lineup Friday due to an upper-body injury and is still considered day-to-day. We don’t know when he might have suffered this injury, but it was enough to keep him out of the lineup. The Ducks play St. Louis Sunday night, so hopefully the rookie is ready to go for that game.
Cale Makar - Colorado Avalanche - Upper-body
Cale Makar was placed on IR by the Colorado Avalanche and is out of the lineup until at least Thursday. That’s the earliest he can return to the lineup, but he may not be ready at that point. He’s still considered day-to-day, but right now, It is not looking likely that he will return this week.
Patrik Laine - Columbus Blue Jackets - Oblique
Patrik Laine is expected to be out of the lineup for the next four-to-six weeks due to an oblique injury. Laine was off to a great start, and now he’s going to miss at least a month. It’s not ideal, but fantasy owners will need to stash him on IR and look for some waiver wire help for the next few weeks.
Dylan Larkin -Detroit Red Wings - Personal
Dylan Larkin will miss his third straight game due to a personal matter Saturday against Buffalo. There’s no word about why he’s out of the lineup, and honestly, it’s nobody's business. Hopefully it isn’t something too serious and we see the Detroit captain back soon.
Segei Bobrovsky - Florida Panthers - Lower-body
Sergei Bobrovsky left Thursday’s game due to injury and will not be in the lineup for Saturday’s game. He’s considered day-to-day, so we should see him back in the lineup soon. The veteran goalie is off to a fantasy start-- posting an 6-0-0 record, with a 1.72 GAA and a .948 SV%.
Aleksander Barkov - Florida Panthers - Lower-body
Aleksander Barkov was a late scratch Saturday due to a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day. He played over 23-minutes against Washington on Thursday, and seemed to be fine, so this really came out of left field. Hopefully it’s nothing serious and we see him back in the lineup for Monday’s game.
Dougie Hamilton - New Jersey Devils - Lower-body
Dougie Hamilton is expected to miss his second game in a row due to a lower-body injury. He left early in the game against Anaheim, and was unable to play against Los Angeles. He’s still considered day-to-day, but the team may want to play it extra safe and wait until he is really 100% ready to return.
Anthony Mantha - Washington Capitals - Shoulder
The Washington Capitals have placed Anthony Mantha on LT-IR after undergoing successful shoulder surgery on Friday. This is likely to keep him out of the lineup for months, and even before this injury, he was already on the bubble in most fantasy hockey leagues. The veteran winger has a ton of skill, but he can’t stay healthy, and because of that, he’s not hitting his full potential. It’s unfortunate to say, but it might be wise to drop him and just move on.
