Good afternoon, Family! Are you ready for some Sunday Night Football? What better way to end your week than an NFL DFS Showdown on DraftKings and FanDuel? We have a good one tonight with an NFL Interconference matchup between the NFC West San Francisco 49’ers (4-4) and the AFC West Los Angeles Chargers (5-3). This could be a fun as we get a chance to see the new-look 49’ers backfield that includes newly acquired star running Christian McCaffrey facing off against an always potent Justin Herbert-led Chargers offense. The Chargers are banged up and travel north as 7.5-point road underdogs but anything can happen on these primetime Showdown slates. There is a full rundown of players and suggestions below and you can always take a look at our Weekly Match-Up Report and use NFL DFS Tools like our DFS Lineup Generator (a.k.a. the DFS lineup optimizer).

Now before we begin, for those who are new to the process, please take a moment to understand what exactly you are getting yourself into by playing single-game Showdown Slates. We love to have some skin in the game, for sure, but these slates are, for all intents and purposes, a lottery ticket. Sure, there are times when the chalk hits, and everyone shares in the prizes, but, often, you need to hit on that random dart throw that differentiates your lineup from that of the herd in order to claim the top prize. As a result, we encourage you to play responsibly and not over-invest. Stick to the GPP contests (single-entry preferred), don’t blow your whole bankroll, and understand that, unless you are a max-entry player, you should prioritize having fun.

OK, now let’s get to tonight’s action.

NFL DFS CAPTAIN/MVP PLAYS

Christian McCaffrey- San Francisco 49’ers RB

Dream matchup for CMC tonight. The Chargers rank dead last in the NFL in rush yards per attempt (5.7), and in terms of points allowed to running backs, their defense is ranked 30th in the NFL at 28.9. Besides Chargers head coach Brandon Staley’s defense not being able to stop the run this season, this Niners offense is run-first offense anyway, and with McCaffrey’s toting the ball it will just get even more maximized. Even though Elijah Mitchell is now active it will not matter, and CMC is a must-play.

Austin Ekeler- Los Angeles Chargers RB

Over his last four contests Ekeler has rushed for six touchdowns, with at least one in each game. Over that same span he is averaging 5.26 yards per carry and through the air he has brought in 39 receptions on 47 targets for 242 yards and four more touchdowns. Those are monster numbers and with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams both out tonight he should get an elite receiving role against a tough Niner defense.

Jimmy Garoppolo- San Francisco 49’ers QB

On DraftKings Garoppolo is best suited in the Utility spot but he can be used as MVP in FanDuel. The Niners are getting healthy, and they have so many weapons – McCaffrey, Kittle, Aiyuk, Samuel- where we may see the air volume more evenly dispersed. The safest option may be to play the QB and take the guessing game out of the equation.  Jimmy G has played extremely well over the past four weeks, averaging 271.75 yards and two touchdowns with less than an interception per game.

NFL DFS MID TIER PLAYS

Justin Herbert – Los Angeles Charger QB

Herbert ranks behind only Tom Brady with 43.9 pass attempts per game, but his YPA is only 6.4 and he has been even worse as of late. He pulled a stinker in a near-dream matchup against the Falcons and now will be without his top two options again tonight. His price is reasonable enough and we know the Charger will favor the pass funnel, but Herbert is Utility at best tonight.

Josh Palmer- Los Angeles Chargers WR

Palmer delivered in Week 9 without Allen and Williams as he broke the 100-yard mark for the first time by catching eight of his 10 targets for a total of 106 yards. With both receivers out again this week expect another strong game against a Niner defense that allowed opponents' wide receivers to average 28.1 fantasy points per game this season- 12th-worst in the league. Palmer and Herbert have developed good chemistry as he has seen at least eight targets in four weeks this season and at least 13 points (PPR) in each of those games. Palmer should continue to have high targets this week and another strong showing.

George Kittle- San Francisco 49’ers TE

Kittle may fly under the radar tonight against a Chargers defense ranked 15th in DraftKings points allowed to tight ends.  Kittle is the cheapest of the main receivers in tonight’s game and third among San Francisco in receiving yards (47.9) and fourth in targets (5.4). Take a chance on one of the elite tight ends in the game.

Robbie Gould- San Francisco 49’ers K

Gould is starting to show his age and has only hit 77% of his field goals this season. The veteran, though, still has that big leg and can hit from 50+ at any time. Jimmy Garoppolo can move the offense downfield and you can expect a few opportunities for Gould tonight.

NFL DFS VALUE PLAYS

Elijah Mitchell- San Francisco 49’ers RB

Mitchell has been activated from the IR and even though there is some volatility here he should be stepping into the Jeff Wilson role and at $200 on DraftKings becomes the top punt play of the game.

DeAndre Carter- Los Angeles Chargers WR

Carter is a nice leverage receiver tonight as the Niners are most susceptible to the slot- allowing the sixth most fantasy points to that position in the league. He has seen 34 targets for 24 receptions and 282 yards and a score on the season.

Michael Bandy – Los Angeles Chargers WR

Bandy is an undrafted rookie that saw eight targets last week and six targets in the game before that. In last week’s game he caught five of the eight targets for 26 yards and is back in play as a dart with Allen and Williams both out again tonight.

Kyle Juszcyk- San Francisco 49’ers RB

Juszcyk is averaging three receptions for 30 yards in his last three games, and he has a reputation as a prime-time hero. It’s a total dart throw but the big fullback is always a threat to vulture a Niner touchdown.
