Week 4 is in the books and a wild one it was. We saw the top two scoring QB's on the DFS slate come from the same game in Geno Smith and Jared Goff after the Lions and Seahawks combined for 93 points. If you read the QB coach last week then you saw that Goff was our top QB in the value play section so hopefully that netted you a pretty penny. With Week 4 over we turn our attention to the Week 5 DFS slate.

NFL DFS QB Top Plays

Josh Allen, BUF

The weather did a number on most of the top priced QB's in Week 4 but Josh Allen used his mobility to put forth yet another top scoring effort for those who rostered him in DFS as he finished with 24.52 fantasy points. With better weather expected in Week 5 and a matchup against the Steelers this week there is a strong chance he comes out and has himself a big time performance. The only question when it comes Allen this season is whether or not you can build a good enough lineup around the Allen/Stefon Diggs stack given how expensive both players are.

Jalen Hurts, PHI

Like Allen, Hurts used his mobility to help fantasy players in Week 4 but overall it was the first lackluster performance of the season for the Eagles QB. To be fair, he had to deal with the worst of the weather that hit the east coast and he faced a really good Jaguars defense. In Week 5 the Eagles travel to Arizona where Hurts will get the benefit of playing in a dome, on turf, where his speed can really play up along with the speed of his receivers. He likely is the highest rostered of the top guys.

Justin Herbert, LAC

In two road games this season Herbert has totaled 674 yards and five touchdowns. The Chargers travel to Cleveland this week to face a solid Browns defense. Los Angeles could get Keenan Allen back this week which will certainly bolster the team's passing attack which is already pretty strong. You get a $1,000 discount on Herbert over on DraftKings where is likely the better pivot option if you are looking to save some cash. On FanDuel Jalen Hurts is only $400 more and is the better play.

NFL DFS QB Mid-Price Plays

Tom Brady, TB

The man chose football over family with reports that he and his wife have hired divorce lawyers. What does his personal life mean when it comes to his play on the field? Probably not all that much. In Week 4 we saw Brady throw for 385 yards and three touchdowns. The Buccaneers receiving group was at full strength for the first time since Week 1 with Mike Evans back from his suspension and both Chris Godwin and Julio Jones back from their injuries. The matchup against the Falcons is one we expect Brady to have little trouble with. On DraftKings he is a great value. On FanDuel he is a bit expensive to be considered a “mid-tier” option and therefore should be thrown in the tier above, below Herbert.

Trevor Lawrence, JAX

Lawrence has eight touchdown passes through the first four weeks of the season and he's done it against some tough defenses in the Eagles, Chargers and Colts over the past three weeks. This week the Jaguars are at home against a very bad Texans defense. With better playing conditions than the rain storm he had to deal with against the Eagles in Week 4 I look for Lawrence to connect with Christian Kirk and possibly even Zay Jones, if healthy, this week.

Carson Wentz, WAS

After back-to-back weeks facing some harrowing defenses in the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles we finally get Wentz, at home, against one of the leagues worst units in the Tennessee Titans. Against the Lions and Jaguars earlier this year we saw Wentz combined for seven touchdowns and 650 yards. The Commanders defense is no great shakes either so I can see the Titans actually putting points on the board and making this one competitive which should keep Wentz throwing.

NFL DFS QB Value Plays

Jameis Winston/Andy Dalton, NO

We don't know yet who will be the starting QB for the Saints this weekend but with a home matchup against a Seahawks defense that just allowed 45 points to the Lions last week I think there is some merit to looking at this Saints offense this week. The team still has talented pass catchers on the roster and if Michael Thomas returns this week then that is an added bonus given how well rookie Chris Olave has been playing. In his spot start against the Vikings Dalton completed 71% of his throws for 236 yards and a touchdown. He also lost a fumble which cost him two fantasy points and therefore he finished with only 14.74 fantasy points, all things considered, not the worst showing outside of the fumble. If Winston is healthy then we've seen two weeks this season where he has put up solid fantasy production with his 21.66 FP effort in Week 1 and 19.62 FP effort in Week 3. Winston has yet to attempt less than 34 passes in a game this season so if he is active you know they are throwing it.

NFL DFS QB Fades

Matthew Stafford, LAR

Maybe a little bit of low hanging fruit here but the Rams offense has not looked all that good this season and Stafford has now gone two straight weeks without a passing touchdown. So, why the heck is he priced in the mid-tier range on both DraftKings and Fanduel? The Cowboys defense is among the league leaders in sacks and QB pressures. They have a ball hawking secondary and while Dallas may not have the book the way the 49ers do, it seems difficult to see the Rams getting much going on offense outside of throwing to Cooper Kupp but that doesn't make me want to play Matthew Stafford given where he is priced at.
