NFL Wild Card Early Spread Picks & Predictions
Chargers vs. Texans Spread Pick: Saturday, January 11th
Justin Herbert has been playing exceptionally well, guiding his team to two impressive wins to finish the regular season. Under Jim Harbaugh's leadership, the Chargers have demonstrated excellent game management and a strong offense, averaging 36.3 points in their last three games.
On the other hand, the Texans have had an up-and-down season, particularly struggling against strong teams like the Ravens and Chiefs. Their defense, which ranks 16th in points allowed per game, will have a tough challenge against Herbert’s efficient passing and the Chargers' ability to score in the red zone (56.8%).
The Chargers' defense also gives them an advantage, as they lead the league in points allowed (17.6 per game) and are good at limiting opposing quarterbacks. Houston’s offense, sitting at 19th in points per game, is likely to have a hard time keeping up.
With a better quarterback-coach combination and the momentum on their side, the Chargers are expected to cover the spread in this game. Back the Chargers -2.5 (-118 at FanDuel) to start out our NFL Wild Card picks.
Commanders vs. Buccaneers Spread Pick: Sunday, January 12th
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been impressive lately, showing great composure and playmaking skills in recent victories over solid teams like the Falcons and Eagles. The Commanders have a good offense, ranking 5th in points per game with 28.5, and they boast a powerful rushing game that averages 156.6 yards per game, which is 3rd in the league.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers struggled to finish their season, barely winning against a weak Saints team in Week 18, even though they were heavily favored. Their pass defense has been a major issue, allowing 244.9 passing yards per game, which ranks 29th in the league.
This could be a problem for them against Daniels, who excels at making plays and exploiting weak secondaries. Although Tampa Bay has a strong offense, the Commanders' defense is tough, ranking 3rd in passing yards allowed per game at 187.1, which gives them a good chance to limit the Buccaneers' big plays.
Getting 3 points with Washington seems a bit excessive. The last of our NFL Wild Card picks will roll with the Commanders to cover the spread +3 (-115 at FanDuel) and maybe even pull off an upset.
