NFL Week 2 Picks Straight Up: Cincinnati Bengals ML (-170 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Yes, the Cincinnati Bengals always start out slow out of the gate. And yes, the Cincinnati Bengals game against the Browns was a little too close for comfort. Does that mean we should be getting this good a value on the Bengals for Week Two against the Jacksonville Jaguars? Personally? I don't think so.

I don't think the Bengals' defense is made up of world beaters; they have been the weak link of this team for a few years now. That being said, the Jaguars are coming off a game against the Carolina Panthers, who had a historically bad run defense in 2024 and kept that trend going to start 2025, allowing Travis Etienne (someone we once considered washed) to finish with 143 rushing yards, including a 71-yard breakaway play. Even in the passing game, the Panthers' defensive line could not generate any pressure on Trevor Lawrence, despite the Jaguars' offensive line appearing to be a little shaky on paper.

Meanwhile, the Bengals' defense held the entire Browns' run game to two yards per carry on 24 attempts and were able to sack Joe Flacco twice as well. So, while I am not high on the Bengals' defense, I think they are certainly more competent than the unit the Panthers sent out against the Jaguars. In terms of offenses, there shouldn't even be a question either. Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Chase Brown. They will ALL bounce back against this defense. With Lawrence having an up-and-down day passing against the Panthers, I will take the Bengals offense 10 times out of 10 in this matchup. All of that, plus the Jaguars losing 11 of their last 12 games on the road, makes me feel like we are getting a steal at -170, so I would hustle to get this value before the line shifts.

NFL Week 2 Picks Straight Up: New England Patriots (+100 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

Neither the New England Patriots nor the Miami Dolphins looked great in Week One, but wow. The Miami Dolphins looked REALLY bad. What was once a prolific offense could not get anything going against the Indianapolis Colts, and the defense got torched by an offense led by Daniel Jones of all people. The team was embarrassed, and their coach had nothing really to say other than acknowledging that it couldn't get any worse than that. Personally, with all the drama around Tyreek Hill, schematic issues, quarterback troubles, and a lack of identity on both sides of the ball, I think this is just the beginning of the Dolphins' downfall.

The Patriots, on the other hand, might have disappointed, but they lost by one score against an up-and-coming Raiders team while playing defense without their best player, Christian Gonzales. The offense was notably lackluster, only averaging 4.9 yards per play. With the clear holes in the Dolphins' secondary and bright spots like Kayshon Boutte, I think this is the perfect opportunity to bounce back. From the outside looking in, the Patriots seem like a team and culture on the rise under Mike Vrabel, while Mike McDaniel's seat seems to be getting real warm.
