NFL Week 4 Picks Straight Up: Tampa Bay Buccaneers ML (+164 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Last week, I admittedly picked the Los Angeles Rams +3.5 spread against the Philadelphia Eagles, which was looking great until Jordan Davis had to return his game-sealing blocked kick back for a touchdown. Pain. But once again, I am picking against the Philadelphia Eagles and putting my faith into the hands of Baker Mayfield. Who, for whatever reason, has not let me down a single time this season, no matter how close the final scores have been.
So once again, I am expecting an incredibly close game between two teams that seemingly pull away with wins in one-score games every single week. That being said, why the Bucs over the Birds? Well, dating back to 2015, the Buccaneers are 7-1 against the Eagles. For whatever reason, they always seem to have their number. Plus, while Baker Mayfield will be without Mike Evans for this game, he is getting Chris Godwin back alongside the rest of his weapons. So, I expect the Bucs offense to find a way to pick on Adoree' Jackson, like every team has been this season.
On the other side of the ball, there is no one I trust more to slow down Saquon Barkley and stuff the tush-push more than Vita Vea. The Eagles proved they can win games through the air last week, but I don't think they'll be able to be as successful this time around against this defense. It'll be close and it'll probably come down to the last possession, but I like the value we are getting on the Bucs and I'll keep riding the wave until it lets me down.
NFL Week 4 Picks Straight Up: Chicago Bears ML (-106 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
On paper, the Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders are very similar teams. A relatively potent passing game, a lackluster run game, and a bunch of replacement-level players manning the secondary in what is a fairly well-coached unit. It makes sense that the sportsbooks don't know which team to make the favorite. That being said, two things make me think the Bears will come away with the win here: momentum and Ben Johnson's history against Pete Carroll's defense.
In their respective last games, the Chicago Bears dominated the Dallas Cowboys 31-14, led by Caleb Williams' four touchdown passes. Meanwhile, the Raiders are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Marcus Mariota-led Washington Commanders that finished with a score of 41-24, which could have even been a bigger blowout if not for a 14-point fourth quarter. The Raiders desperately needed a get-right game after Geno Smith put up one of the worst games of his career the week prior against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Lucky for the Bears, they got THEIR get-right game at the right time. Take that, and add on the fact that since 2022, Ben Johnson-led offenses have averaged 35 points per game against Pete Carroll's defenses, and I will happily take the Bears to walk away with this one.
