NFL Week 14 Picks Against The Spread: Dallas Cowboys +3 (+100 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
This is now the third week in a row where I have highlighted the Dallas Cowboys as a pick against the spread or a pick straight up. What can I say? They are hot right now. My concerns about their defense have been put at ease with players returning from injury and moves that were made, and it may sound crazy, but I think they are a top-three team in the NFC right now.
On the other side, the Detroit Lions are starting to slip a bit. They can't seem to catch a break. They thought they were getting their former superstar center, Frank Ragnow, back to help fix their issues in the interior of their offensive line, but he failed his physical. Dan Campbell has been up and down as a play caller in terms of what we expect from this Lions team. And to top it all off, they will very likely be playing without their top receiver, Amon-Ra St. Brown, who got hurt on Thanksgiving.
After winning three straight games and looking great while doing it, I truly think the Cowboys are turning their season around. If the Lions are playing without St. Brown tonight, then I don't see a reason why the Cowboys cannot win this game. The Lions still have a great run game, but since acquiring Quinnen Williams at the trade deadline, the Cowboys' defense hasn't allowed a rusher over 60 yards. So, a lot of the weight will be on the shoulders of Jared Goff, whom I am not sure if I trust as much as the passing attack of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens.
Even if St. Brown plays, this should be a close game. Give me the Cowboys to cover the +3 either way.
NFL Week 14 Picks Against The Spread: Chicago Bears +6.5 (-105 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Yes, I am once again going back to my Chicago Bears as underdogs to cover a somewhat large spread. This time, it is different, though. These Chicago Bears are leading the ENTIRE NFC at 9-3. The number one seed entering December. And yet, they are 6.5-point underdogs. The Green Bay Packers have looked great, are likely getting healthier (despite the loss of Devonte Wyatt), and are playing with a massive home-field advantage, but I still like the idea of the Bears keeping this game close.
Last week, I highlighted the fact that the Bears have been WARRIORS in one-score games. Caleb Williams has five game-winning drives on the season, just one behind the league leader, Bo Nix, and the offense has shown the ability to win both on the ground and through the air now. Meanwhile, last week marked the return of Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon, two necessary pieces of the Bears in the secondary. Most NFL fans know how elite Johnson is, but what people don't realize is the difference Gordon makes. When healthy, the Bears' defense ranks 4th in success rate across the NFL. When they are missing Gordon, that average drops all the way down to 28th. Add in the likely return of reinforcements in the linebacker room, and the Bears' defense that was already leading the league in takeaways now looks a whole lot scarier.
Last week, the Bears went into Philadelphia and dominated the Eagles, who were the number one team in terms of not turning the ball over. They now face the number one team once again, as the Packers have overtaken the Eagles in that statistic, but I can see history repeating itself this weekend. I like the Bears keeping this game close through ball control offense and opportunistic defense. They are already 1-0 in Lambeau in 2025. If a few things go the Bears' way, that could very well become 2-0.
