Cardinals vs. Giants Predictions, Picks & Odds: NFL Week 4, 10/4
Hopes were high for New York Giants fans. New coach John Harbaugh was off to a hot start behind some truly fun players like Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. But losing your starting quarterback, as the Giants did with Jaxson Dart having season-ending knee surgery, can pour cold water on the season in a hurry. They are hoping the combination of Jameis Winston and JJ McCarthy can right the ship and keep them in contention.
The Arizona Cardinals also have a bit of a quarterback issue, though this one is a bit more self-imposed. After going 1-11 last year, the Cardinals opted to bring back Jacoby Brissett as a bridge quarterback as the Mike LaFleur era begins. They have a lot of intriguing young pieces on both sides of the ball, and hitting on a franchise QB, whether that be Carson Beck or someone in next year’s draft, could change the trajectory of this organization.
🏅 Cardinals vs. Giants Expert Pick: Over 44.5 Game Total (-108 on DraftKings)
Let’s think about what the true enemies of betting the over are. There are tough defenses, which we don’t have here. There are long, sustained drives; these teams are not really commandeering. Then you have special teams that pin teams back, which, granted, these teams are actually graded out as top five in special teams per Pro Football Focus. But you still need staunch defense to set that up.
And what are the friends of the over? Explosive chunk plays help, which both Jacoby Brissett and Jameis Winston are not shy of. Turnovers can also often create short fields or even very quick scores via defensive touchdowns. And I don’t think we need to explain why Brissett and Winston are top candidates in those categories. And, of course, leaky defenses also help. The Cardinals have allowed 27 points per game. The Giants are technically averaging 18.5, but a game where the Titans only scored 7 points is keeping that number low - the Cowboys and Rams had no problems scoring. When I add everything up here, the over feels like a pretty solid bet on this one.

🏉 Cardinals vs. Giants Injury Report & Latest News
The Arizona Cardinals have plenty of interesting pieces. That’s headlined by rookie running back Jeremiyah Love who they drafted at four overall. Trey McBride and Michael Wilson have been thriving, while Marvin Harrison has not done much to shake the bust label. The Cardinals had a lot of veterans rest on Wednesday, but most returned to practice on Thursday. The injury concerns are mostly on the back end, as safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (back) did not practice and is trending toward missing this one, while defensive linemen Walter Nolen (shoulder) and Roy Lopez (groin) were both limited.
The Giants are still trying to adjust to losing their franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart. Jameis Winston is starting, though they did trade for JJ McCarthy as a potential development plan for down the stretch. Up front, left tackle Andrew Thomas (groin) did not practice and is a significant question mark - his absence would be a major blow to a line that was already struggling. Running back Tyrone Tracy (knee) was limited and is being monitored, while cornerback Deonte Banks (calf) and safety Tyler Nubin (calf) were both limited as well. The Giants also lost linebacker Brian Burns to a torn ACL, a loss that will be felt throughout the season. Losing arguably your most important offensive and defensive player is tough for the fans to stomach, but the show must go on.
