Here’s a fun one, folks. And it’s one we don’t get all that often, as is typical of AFC and NFC teams. In most cases, unless they make it to the Super Bowl, these teams will only play each other every four years which will make this only the second time meeting since 2018. And a lot has changed since they last met in 2022, so we really can’t glean much from that matchup - Sean Payton and Bo Nix weren’t even with the Broncos at that time.

What we do have are two teams with a legitimate shot to compete for their division this year. The San Francisco 49ers are in first place in the NFC West with a 3-0 record. And the Denver Broncos are sitting at 2-1, which is technically third considering the Chiefs and Raiders are both 3-0. Kansas City and Las Vegas play each other this week, so they can’t both win that one (though I guess technically they could tie). Either way, both the 49ers and Broncos have major incentives to win this week in their battles for their respective West, so we’ll factor that into our predictions, picks, and odds for Broncos vs. 49ers in Week 4!

🏅 Broncos vs. 49ers Expert Pick: Eddy Pineiro Over 1.5 Field Goals Made (-117 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

I know this might not seem like the most fun bet. But we really don’t care about having fun as much as we do winning. And I think Eddy Pineiro ends up coming into play a lot more in this game than he has in the first three games so far.

For starters, Pineiro has been a rock-solid option for the 49ers after he bounced around the league a little bit. Last year he hit 96.6% of his kicks and, despite missing time with injury, was still in the top half of kickers in made field goals. Some teams opt to go for it rather than kicking long field goals, but Pineiro last year nailed one from 59 and has already kicked a 57-yard field goal this year.

The Broncos' defensive playstyle is also conducive to field goals. Yes, the altitude of their home stadium obviously sees teams kick a little more. But they also have a “bend don’t break” defensive style. That includes cornerbacks Patrick Surtain and Riley Moss, who would rather commit pass interference than let up long touchdowns. All that combined saw the Broncos allow the most field goals of any team last year, and they have already allowed two this year. So we like Pineiro kicking two or more this weekend.

🏉 Broncos vs. 49ers Injury Report & Latest News

The Broncos are vying for second place in the division this week on the road. And they’re likely rooting for the Raiders to leave this weekend 4-0 rather than their opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs. Jaylen Waddle (foot) left last week in a boot but was a full go at practice, which is a relief for Denver. Running back J.K. Dobbins (hip) is also trending toward playing. The main concern on defense is outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman, who did not practice with a hamstring injury and is in danger of missing this one. Like Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs, Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper also remains unavailable on the commissioner's exempt list

The big story for the San Francisco 49ers this year has been injuries. Notably, they’ve lost a bunch of wide receivers in Ricky Pearsall, De’Zhaun Stribling, and Christian Kirk. Now Christian McCaffrey and left tackle Trent Williams were both rested Wednesday - Trent Williams missed last week, but McCaffrey at least was just doing veteran rest earlier. Nick Bosa (knee/calf) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) also did not practice, while wide receiver Mike Evans (ribs) is officially listed as questionable.
