NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries: James Cook Gets Paid

James Cook Contract Update

Finally, one of the NFL training camp holdouts has paid off; James Cook has agreed to terms on a four-year, $48 million extension with the Buffalo Bills. After rejoining his team at practice yesterday, the deal was made official this morning. His $12 million annual average puts him one million dollars per year above fellow running back Kyren Williams, who also got a contract extension just over a week ago. General Manager Brandon Beane noted that he wants to keep his young Buffalo Bills core on the team, and Cook was the last piece of the puzzle to get paid. While Cook is viewed as a “three-down back” by Beane and the front office, they want to make sure they are utilizing the other members of the running back room, like Ray Davis.

Jets running back Breece Hall commented on the signing by saying that while he is just as talented as them, they are in better situations and have performed better, so they deserved their respective paydays before him.

While Cook is one of the few holdouts/hold-ins that got their deal done, the league still waits for resolutions around the Micah Parsons and Terry McLaurin situations.

NFL Training Camp Updates - Bengals, Titans, Falcons Fight

With more teams preparing for their next preseason action, more NFL training camp joint practices have been happening throughout the league, including the New York Giants and New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots, and more, but the most intriguing action from today came from the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans joint practice. Things between the two teams got heated, as Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley beat Falcons cornerback AJ Terrell on a long touchdown, leading to Ridley taunting Terrell, plus a massive fight broke out after Michael Penix found Ray-Ray McCloud on a deep ball of his own. Even the second-year quarterback got involved in the brawl.

While these fights are far more common in joint practices, sometimes teammates end up getting chippy with one another. That is what happened today at the Cincinnati Bengals training camp practice, when offensive lineman Lucas Patrick and rookie edge rusher Shemar Stewart went at it after Stewart made contact with Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow.

Chargers RB Room - Is Omarion Hampton a Bellcow Back?

While running back Najee Harris did return to practice yesterday for the first time since his incident on the Fourth of July, the Chargers' coaching staff still would not reveal whether or not Harris would be ready for Week One action. That could potentially open a window for first-round rookie running back Omarion Hampton to be a fantasy football league winner in offensive coordinator Greg Roman's run-heavy scheme. Unfortunately, Roman quickly killed those dreams, noting that the every-down back is extinct, comparing it to a prehistoric creature.

With Harris' availability still in question and Roman committing to a committee backfield, competition for the next running back spot on the depth chart is suddenly incredibly interesting and competitive. The Chargers currently roster Kimani Vidal, Raheim Sanders, Hassan Haskins, and Nyheim Miller-Hines behind Hampton and Harris on the depth chart.

NFL Training Camp Highlights - Drake Maye Finds TreVeyon Henderson

It would not be an NFL Training Camp Update without some highlights! Today, Drake Maye has been balling out in the Patriots and Vikings joint practice, making big plays with two of his new offensive weapons: TreVeyon Henderson and Stefon Diggs. The rookie running back Henderson looks like he is going to be a monster in the receiving game, making this play over Vikings linebacker Blake Cashman, along with catching another 70-yard touchdown earlier in practice.

And even though Stefon Diggs is 31 years old and coming off an ACL tear, he doesn't seem to be slowing down one bit, making Vikings defenders look silly with his route-running skills.

NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions: Shedeur Sanders Injured

Cleveland Browns QBs Injury Update - Shedeur Sanders

Earlier today, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Shedeur Sanders would start during the Cleveland Browns' second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which would give him an opportunity to build off of his success in his first preseason appearance. Unfortunately, later today in the Eagles and Browns joint practice, Sanders suffered an oblique injury and missed the remainder of practice. He is now considered day-to-day. This now further complicates the Browns' quarterback situation, since Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel are both dealing with hamstring injuries. That means, unless one of these quarterbacks feels good enough to go by Saturday, we might be getting some Joe Flacco and Tyler Huntley preseason action.

Chop Robinson Injury Update

Earlier today, during the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins joint practice, second-year pass rusher Chop Robinson had to be carted off the field after making a play by forcing a fumble on Lions running back David Montgomery. Despite the early scare, Robinson has since reported that the injury was “nothing serious.”

Meanwhile, Dolphins receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle returned to practice after missing time last week.

New England Patriots Injury Update

Even while making big plays at their joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings, the Patriots are currently dealing with some fairly significant injuries on both sides of the ball. On offense, running back Rhamondre Stevenson, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, and tight end Hunter Henry all missed practice. Meanwhile, on defense, linebackers Marte Mapu and Jahlani Tavai, along with cornerback Christian Gonzalez, are dealing with injuries as well. It seems like the Patriots will have their depth tested during their preseason matchup against the Vikings on Saturday.

Chicago Bears CBs Injury Update - Jaylon Johnson

Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon make up one of the most underrated corner tandems in the NFL. Unfortunately, the Bears have been without the two for a good portion of NFL Training Camp, and it looks like they will continue to be without them until at least week one. Gordon is currently considered week-to-week and hopes to be back by the end of camp, while Johnson is still rehabbing his leg injury and is targeting a Week One return.
