NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries
Browns Quarterback Battle Update
Easily one of the most anticipated position battles of our NFL Training Camp Updates has been for the Browns' starting quarterback position. Coming into the start of training camp, the browns' quarterback room has featured veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Yesterday, Head Coach Kevin Stefanski noted that he would prefer a quarterback decision sooner rather than later.
Thus far into camp, Pickett and Flacco have been splitting reps with the first team while Sanders and Gabriel have led the second team. It is worth noting that Pickett got the first shot against the starting defense in 11-on-11 drills today.
In other quarterback news, rookie Tyler Shough has shown improvement thus far in camp, but second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler has looked to be the more comfortable of the two.
James Cook Holdout Update
After a career year in 2024 with 16 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards on the ground, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook has made it widely known that he wants to be properly compensated for his efforts with a contract extension in Buffalo. The running back held out of mini-camps throughout the offseason, but reported to Bills camp, noting he is only there so he does not get fined.

He also explained that he does not plan on giving up on getting a new deal, wherever it happens.
Eagles Defensive Changes
After an impressive Super Bowl run, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to make some changes on the defensive side of the ball. During the offseason, the Eagles lost several key contributors in the secondary, such as Darius Slay, Isaiah Rodgers, and C. J. Gardner-Johnson. In order to shoulder some of the loss, Fangio has been working current nickel corner, Cooper DeJean, at safety in some of their base defensive packages, similarly to how the Detroit Lions have used Brian Branch.
Today, Fangio also noted that he has been working cornerback Quinyon Mitchell on both sides of the field so he could travel with opposing teams’ WR1s.
The biggest (literally) change, though, has come from defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who dropped over 20lbs to 330lbs in order to make a bigger impact along this defensive line.
Kyle Pitts at Receiver
To all my fantasy football people out there, this portion of the NFL Training Camp Updates is for you. It might finally be Kyle Pitts' year! At least, according to his quarterback, Michael Penix, who mentioned getting the tight end the ball unprompted:
It is also worth mentioning that in today’s practice, Kyle Pitts spent his time with the wide receivers, not the tight ends. After some early injury scares this offseason, Kyle Pitts is ready to go.
Wide Receivers Showing Out
Some early highlights have come out of several NFL training camps across the league, none more impressive than this spectacular catch from New York Giants wide receiver Wandale Robinson
The New England Patriots may have also finally found some consistent hands at the receiver position, with newly signed Stefon Diggs impressing early off his ACL injury and rookie receiver Kyle Williams making highlight catches like this one:
NFL Training Camp Injury Updates: Justin Fields, Terrion Arnold, and More
Justin Fields Injury Update
Despite some scares earlier today when Justin Fields was carted off during practice, it has since been announced that he avoided serious injury and will be day-to-day with a dislocated toe.
Terrion Arnold & Derrick Barnes Update
Lions defenders Terrion Arnold and Derrick Barnes both left practice early. Early reports note that Arnold is dealing with a strained calf that the Lions intend to be cautious with, while Barnes is dealing with a hand injury that should not be too big of a concern.
Artie Burns Injury Update
After having to leave practice early yesterday, an MRI has since confirmed that Artie Burns has torn his ACL and is expected to miss the 2025 season.
Jaylon Johnson, Luther Burden, and More
The Chicago Bears were without three of their rookies for today’s practice. Wide receiver Luther Burden is reportedly day-to-day with a soft tissue injury, and fellow second-round pick Shemar Turner missed practice today due to an ankle injury that he suffered during yesterday’s practice. Rookie corner Zah Frazier was excused from today’s practice for personal reasons, while veteran corner Jaylon Johnson is back in the building, rehabbing his leg injury.
Jacob Cowing Injury Update
Among several other receiver injuries that the San Francisco 49ers have suffered, Jacob Cowing also suffered a hamstring injury during their first day of practice. In response, today the 49ers have signed wide receiver Quintez Cephus to a one-year deal.
