NFL training camp kicks off and a notable name is already going to miss the 2023 NFL season. Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines suffered a season ending injury stemming from a jet ski accident which will result in Hines undergoing knee surgery that will cost him the entire 2023 NFL season. When it comes to fantasy football ADP, fantasy football projections and fantasy football rankings this news is not likely to have much of an impact but Hines played an important real football role in the Bills offense as both a kick return specialist and someone the team would rely upon on third-down after acquiring him in a trade with the Colts last season. With Hines now out of the picture lets take a look at the Buffalo Bills running back room.

James Cook Fantasy Football ADP & Projections

The Buffalo Bills went through a transition at the running back position this offseason with Devin Singletary leaving for the Houston Texans and the team signing Damien Harris along with Latavius Murray. The one holdover from the 2022 season is their 2022 second round pick James Cook. Cook is currently the first Bills running back being drafted when it comes to fantasy football ADP rankings, coming off the board around pick 88 in most league formats. Cook had a so-so rookie season, playing behind Devin Singletary for most of the year but did have games where he would lead the team in snap percentage. Overall, he finished with 507 yards rushing and two scores while adding 21 catches for 180 yards and another touchdown. Most projections had Nyheim Hines filling the pass catching role in this Buffalo offense but those targets should now flow to Cook who, of the three running backs on the roster, is the more polished pass catcher. At this stage in their careers, he is also the most explosive with Damien Harris and Latavius Murray profiling more like red zone threats than running backs that would be relied upon for every down work. The injury to Hines shouldn't impact Cook's status as the top running back to roster in fantasy football this season but his projections should see a bit of an uptick which may see his ADP on the rise over the coming weeks.

Damien Harris Fantasy Football ADP & Projections

Harris signed a one-year deal with the Bills this offseason after being let go by the New England Patriots. When it comes to salary, Harris is making the most money of any running back on the roster with a nearly $1.8 million dollar cap hit. Now,  that's not a ton of money but the team at least valued him more than Latavius Murray whose cap hit is only a million dollars.  When it comes to fantasy football ADP, Harris is being drafted around pick 114 across the industry and is looked at as the short-yardage and potential red zone running back in this Buffalo offense. Injuries have been an issue for Harris but his one full season for the Patriots back in 2021 saw him rush for 929 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. With reports that the Bills would look for Allen to take a step back when it comes to running the football, Harris could approach double-digit touchdown IF that was to be true. That said, this injury to Nyheim Hines doesn't really impact Harris here. He was not expected to play a role in the team's passing offense and it's unlikely we see much of an ADP change here.
