Week 1 was full of high scores, including fantasy football. And IDPs were not an exception to the rule. There were three touchdowns (TD) from IDPs: a veteran, a rookie, and a second-year phenomenon, all of which were mentioned in the Fantasy Alarm Draft Kit. Before we get to Week 2, a quick review of last week’s IDP Report.

  • Kwity Paye, DL, LV: 6 combined tackles, 4 QB Hits, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss
  • Bobby Okereke, LB, CAR: 6 combined tackles, 1 Forced Fumble (FF), 1 tackle for loss
  • Nick Bosa, DL, SF: 4 combined tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 QB hit
  • Jacob Rodriguez, LB, MIA: 14 combined tackles

Grade: A+. The IDP points were ridiculous from these four. Carl Granderson of the New Orleans Saints was mentioned and earned a sack, but can only muster honorable mention with this group. A great start, but now the focus switches to Week 2 of fantasy football.

Fantasy Football IDP Risers Week 2

Boye Mafe, DL/LB Cincinnati Bengals

Boye Mafe made just one play in last week’s beatdown of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it was a huge play. A sack, strip, fumble! In stat terms, that is:

A solo tackle, a tackle for loss, a QB Hit, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. That is all it takes for an IDP to have a great game.

It’s the one-play jackpot of fantasy football, kind of like Howard Bender at the Las Vegas Airport last month. Can Mafe do it again? Maybe? Would he have been a bust without that play? Definitely. Is he worth monitoring going forward? Absolutely. He is a Week 2 riser and should be monitored for your roster going forward.

Josiah Trotter, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Josiah Trotter made one of the best NFL debuts of all time. 11 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a QB Hit, a pass defended, an interception, and a touchdown. He filled almost every category, and several IDP bonus point marks. The rookie was outscored by only one IDP, the legendary T.J. Watt, who also scored a touchdown.

Trotter is not an every-down linebacker, but he played more than 90% of the Buccaneers' defensive snaps. He should be rostered in every league going forward, and is a riser worth a significant amount of FAAB (Free Agent Auction Budget) in Week 2. Spend up for him.

Andrew Wingard, DB, Arizona Cardinals

Andrew Wingard was a standout IDP at times during his seven-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started his career as an Arizona Cardinal with a bang. He earned four combined tackles, two tackles for a loss, a pass defended, an interception, and a forced fumble.

The Cardinals won in part due to his great play. He is a do-it-all safety who is obviously capable of making plays behind the line of scrimmage, as well as deep in the secondary. He will be a valuable defensive back going forward. Keep an eye on this riser for Week 2 and beyond, and if you have the roster space, add him.

Fantasy Football Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire Targets

Donovan Ezeiruaku, DL, Dallas Cowboys (3% ownership +/-)

Ezeiuaku was a bright spot on a dim night for Dallas. The Cowboys were outplayed and out-coached throughout the night. However, Ezeiuaku registered 10 combined tackles, two QB hits, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, and 0.5 sacks.

He could be a valuable IDP for Week 2 as the Cowboys look to bounce back in their season home opener. They are up against the Washington Commanders, who allowed one sack and were 5-of-15 on third down. Pick him up off the waiver and put him into your Week 2 starting lineup.

Ventrell Miller, LB, Jacksonville Jaguars (16% ownership +/-)

Miller showed everyone why the Jaguars let Devin Lloyd walk in free agency. He led the team in tackles with a combined total of ten. Two were tackles for loss, and he added 1.0 sack, a QB hit, and a forced fumble for good measure.

Jacksonville had an easy game last week, but a tougher opponent in Week 2. They will be in Denver against the Broncos for their first home game of the season. Look for a lot of running and for Miller to be there waiting, regardless of who the running back is. Pick him up off the waivers and plug him into your Week 2 lineup.

Keisean Nixon, Defensive Back, Green Bay Packers (4% ownership +/-)

Nixon was a topic of debate during training camp. He started on the second string and publicly stated, ‘...I don’t know… I guess I’m being punished’. But it was he who gave out the punishment on Sunday.

Nixon ended with 5 combined tackles, two QB hits, a tackle for loss, a pass defended, an interception, and 0.5 sacks. With Green Bay’s lack of offense, Nixon could be on the field for several plays again in Week 2. He is a rarity as a cornerback who defends the run game extremely well. Pick him up off the waivers with little to no FAAB.

NFL Week 2 IDP Matchups To Capitalize On

Andre Cisco, DB, NY Jets

Minkah Fitzpatrick went down with a groin injury early in Sunday’s game. Andre Cisco was able to take advantage of the moment and ended with six solo tackles against the Tennessee Titans. He and the New York Jets are hosting the Green Bay Packers in their first home game of the season. The Packers do not have a run game and rely heavily on Tucker Kraft, whom Cisco will be matched up against. The Packers also like deep throws down the seam to their wide receivers, and Cisco will be there to make solo tackles just like he did last week. Put him in for Week 2 and expect a high volume of tackles.

Jaelan Phillips, DL, CAR Panthers

Jalean Phillips was an off-season move that went under the radar, although it was obvious he was going to have a productive and high-scoring season. He was not a highly drafted IDP, and even went undrafted in some leagues. That was a fantasy football mistake too many made.

He is now a hot Week 2 IDP waiver wire add after a great game against the Chicago Bears. He landed three combined tackles, a tackle for loss, a QB hit, and a sack. That was against a mobile quarterback in Caleb Williams. This week he’s playing a third-string quarterback… who is not as mobile, Cooper Rush. The Atlanta Falcons allowed four sacks and two interceptions; one was a pick-six to a defensive end. Phillips is set up for success in Week 2; get him off the waivers and into your lineup.

Jihaad Campbell, LB, Philadelphia Eagles

In the world of football, some things can not be hidden. The Tennessee Titans' atrocious offense is one of them. They can not move the ball, they can not sustain drives, they have a quarterback who may not be productive in the NFL, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting better with a defensive-minded Head Coach.

The Titans ran just 49 offensive plays last week. That led to a meager 195 total yards, an awful 11 first downs, and a lousy 21:14 time of possession… that’s just over 33% of the game. This should lead to great opportunities for Jihaad Campbell, who is a do-it-all linebacker. He earned nine combined tackles last week, as well as a sack. The Titans will be playing with a negative game script, and Campbell should have another big play in addition to his high tackle volume. Play him with confidence in Week 2 against a poor offense.
