Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week: Jaxson Dart to Start Rest of the Season
Welcome into our Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week! What a wild Week Three in the NFL this past week! The star-studded Green Bay Packers fell to the winless Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers held the Atlanta Falcons scoreless, and my Chicago Bears finally managed to win a game! With all that wildness, though, plenty of changes have been happening across several different NFL franchises and the entire fantasy football landscape, so I am here to keep you updated with it all!
Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week
A lot has happened in the NFL in just a couple of weeks, so let's try and get you up to date! In today's Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week, we are diving into Jordan Addison's return to the Minnesota Vikings, Russell Wilson's benching, and much more!
NFL QB News: Giants Commit to Jaxson Dart
Yesterday, news broke that the Giants were going to be moving veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to the bench after an 0-3 start and choosing to move forward with the rookie Jaxson Dart. While this decision is not too surprising, as both head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are seemingly on the hot seat, and Russell Wilson has not looked great (outside of a monster performance against the porous Cowboys defense), Dart does face a tough test in his first start against the 3-0 Los Angeles Chargers. Luckily for Dart, though, his leash is much longer than Wilson's was, as Daboll has committed to the rookie as their starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Dart looks to bring a spark to a struggling Giants team with a fairly talented roster around him.
Meanwhile, in Atlanta, people have been calling for Michael Penix to revisit the bench, as he put up the worst performance of his short career thus far against a Panthers team that has looked suspect at best on both sides of the ball. That being said, head coach Raheem Morris shut down the idea of Penix being benched, noting that veteran Kirk Cousins lost the starting job last year, and one bad game from Penix does not come close to that.
NFL Suspension Update: Jordan Addison Returns
After a 2-1 start where they most recently put up 48 points against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Minnesota Vikings will be getting more offensive reinforcements, as Jordan Addison is expected to return from his three-week suspension for the Vikings' Week Four matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Addison rejoins a receiving group featuring Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, T.J. Hockenson, and Jalen Nailor. While he might have been expecting to be catching passes from J.J. McCarthy, though, Carson Wentz will actually be quarterbacking the team again for at least one more week as McCarthy continues to work his way back from injury. The game plan with Wentz worked last week; hopefully, for Addison and the Vikings, it'll work again when they travel to Dublin to take on the Steelers.
Fantasy Football Injury Update: Mike Evans, CeeDee Lamb
Hope you have been active on the waiver wire, because several big-name receivers have gone down with injuries this past week, including CeeDee Lamb, Mike Evans, and Terry McLaurin.
Terry McLaurin is dealing with a quad injury and was unable to practice today. The Commanders' offense could now be without him AND quarterback Jayden Daniels, as he works his way back from a knee injury.
CeeDee Lamb is dealing with a high ankle sprain that he got on a carry out of the backfield in the Cowboys' matchup against the Chicago Bears. While the timeline is expected to be 2-4 weeks, Lamb is trying to get back on the playing field as soon as possible.
Mike Evans will be out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury. Luckily for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they are expecting to get Chris Godwin back into the lineup either this week against the Philadelphia Eagles or next week vs. the Seattle Seahawks.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson Released: Potential Landing Spot
C.J. Gardner-Johnson was released from the Houston Texans yesterday after a 0-3 start. Gardner-Johnson seemingly struggled both on and off the field, with rumors discussing him not liking his usage, defensive scheme, and overall landing spot. The former Super Bowl champion was acquired via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason and is once again looking for a fresh start.
In a press conference today, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about the possibility of bringing Gardner-Johnson back to the Birds, but he deflected the question, noting that the team is excited about who is already in their defensive backfield. It is worth noting, though, that pass rusher Nolan Smith was just placed on IR, opening up a roster spot should general manager Howie Roseman decide to make a move.
