Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week
We are more than halfway through the NFL season, yet the rumors, news, and drama are coming in more than ever! In today's Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week, we discuss the New York Giants' recent changes, some fantasy football injury updates, and much more!
New York Giants Make Changes: Brian Daboll Fired, Jameis Winston to Start
After yet another fourth-quarter collapse, this time against the Chicago Bears, the New York Giants have finally decided to make some changes. After just over three and a half seasons with the team, the New York Giants are parting ways with head coach Brian Daboll. Daboll led the Giants to a 9-7 record and a playoff win in his first season with the team back in 2022, but has not had much success since. Offensive Coordinator Mike Kafka will fill his shoes as interim head coach.
Kafka must have seen something while working with the offense throughout the year, because he is choosing to start Jameis Winston as his quarterback over Russell Wilson in his first game as head coach. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a concussion late in the Giants' last game and is not expected to be ready for their matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Hopefully, Winston can provide a spark against a Packers team currently on a two-game skid.
NFL Injury Update: Joe Burrow, Marvin Harrison
Marvin Harrison has gotten 10+ targets in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. Things have been looking up for the young wide receiver, but unfortunately, he will have to wait to continue his upward trajectory, as MHJ just underwent surgery for appendicitis and is expected to miss the Cardinals' Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers and likely more time after that. So much for being one of my favorite trade targets in fantasy football…
Some good news, though, is coming for the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Originally given a timetable for a potential December return, Joe Burrow has returned to practice this week and is eyeing a return to the playing field during Week 13 for the Bengals' Thanksgiving matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Week 14 is considered the more realistic return date, but if the Bengals find themselves still in the hunt for the playoffs, Joe Burrow might be too eager to wait.
As for the Bucs, while Chris Godwin remains out and will likely be out with injury until December, Bucky Irving was seen practicing today. This could be a good sign, as it was originally reported that there was no timetable for his return.
Fantasy Football Rumor: A.J. Brown Unhappy in Philly
A.J. Brown fantasy managers, you might want to make a move soon. Last night, during a Madden stream, Brown expressed displeasure with his role on the Eagles offense, noting his Madden highlights were the only highlights he has been making this year. He even noted that anyone who has him in fantasy football should trade him away as soon as possible. The Philadelphia Eagles struggled on offense altogether in their last matchup against the Green Bay Packers, winning the game 10-7.
NFL Transaction Update: Asante Samuel Jr., Mecole Hardman Sign
Despite being 11 weeks into the NFL season, some impact signings are still being made. The Buffalo Bills' offense has been lacking a vertical speed threat. In an attempt to fill that void, they have made a move to add Mecole Hardman to their receiving group. Hardman was previously an impact player for the Kansas City Chiefs and also spent time with the Jets and Packers.
Last week, we reported that free agent corner Asante Samuel Jr. was cleared to play. After several visits over the past week, he has decided to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have made several additions to their secondary over the past year, including Jalen Ramsey, Darius Slay, and Kyle Dugger. Samuel now joins this group and will help the Steelers maintain first place in the AFC North.
