Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week
We are more than halfway through the NFL season, yet the rumors, news, and drama are coming in more than ever! In today's Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week, we discuss the NFL Trade Deadline, Asante Samuel Jr.'s status, and much more!
NFL Trade Deadline Update: Jets, Cowboys Make Moves
The NFL trade deadline did not disappoint this year, with monster deals being made across the league. Seattle landed their deep threat in Rashid Shaheed, the Eagles reinforced their defense with multiple moves, including snagging Jaelan Phillips from the Dolphins, and the Chargers got a band-aid for their offensive line in the form of Trevor Penning. All that said, the biggest moves that happened went through East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The New York Jets made it clear that they have hit the reset button. What was once one of the most young and promising defenses has now been torn apart for future assets. The first move happened with the Philadelphia Eagles, where they sent their nickel corner, Michael Carter II, to Philly for a late-round pick swap and wide receiver John Metchie. Not too wild a move. The real eye openers were when they sent their two faces of the franchise, Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, to the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys, respectively. In return, the Jets received a haul that includes three first-round picks, a second-round pick, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. It was expected that with the floodgates opening, we could have also seen running back Breece Hall and defensive end Jermaine Johnson II also be moved, but the asking price for those two players was reportedly too high for inquiring teams (much to Breece Hall's dismay). While this might hurt right now, Jets fans, the team is now set up for the future, as long as GM Darren Mougey can hit on those picks.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he was going to be active at the deadline, and he stayed true to his promise. Not only did he secure Williams from the Jets, but he also brought in linebacker Logan Wilson from the Bengals. The Cowboys have fielded one of the worst defensive units in the league this season, despite having a very potent offense, so hopefully these moves will allow them to start contending in a wide-open NFC.

NFL QB Update: Jacoby Brissett to Start
There could quietly be a quarterback controversy going on in Arizona. Cardinals backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over for Kyler Murray due to injury after their embarrassing loss to the winless Tennessee Titans in early October, and since then, the Cardinals' offense has looked significantly better. Through their first five games with Murray under center, the Cardinals averaged just over 20 points per game. Now, with Brissett at the helm, their points per game have jumped up to almost 26.
Kyler Murray entered their Week Nine matchup against the Dallas Cowboys with a “questionable” tag, notably practicing that week, but not with the first team. After a primetime victory against the Cowboys, Murray remains on the bench due to both performance AND injury, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. It is worth noting that Murray's foot is still causing him to not move normally, and he could risk setbacks if he returns too early, but the Cardinals might not want him to return with how the offense is now humming.
NFL Injury Update: Tampa Bay Still Banged Up
With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers returning from their bye week to face the New England Patriots on Sunday, fans were hopeful that we could see the return of some key offensive players like Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving. Unfortunately, neither players were seen practicing today, and according to Todd Bowles, Irving has worked his way back up to running, but has not been able to take contact yet. That means it might be the Emeka Egbuka and Rachaad White show for the Bucs for another week.
Luckily for the Bucs, they might be facing off against a Patriots offense also down a receiver and running back, as both Rhamondre Stevenson and Kayshon Boutte missed practice due to injury as well. Without some key weapons, this game could play a big role in the MVP race, as both quarterbacks, Drake Maye and Baker Mayfield, find themselves inside the top five of betting odds for the award.
NFL Transaction Update: Asante Samuel Jr. Cleared to Play
During the offseason, Asante Samuel Jr. was viewed as one of the top free agent corners by NFL fans, yet he went unsigned. That was due to a spine injury that held him out of most of the 2025 season. Prior to that, he was a solid starting corner for the Los Angeles Chargers, with six career interceptions in 47 career starts. He has recently been cleared to play and is now visiting with teams to potentially sign and help make a playoff push. Today, he is visiting with the Carolina Panthers, but he is also reportedly visiting with the Packers and Vikings.
