There were more upsets in NFL Week 3 and, fortunately, we avoided most of them as eight underdogs won outright. I did list the Chargers here, but after seeing the uncertain status of Justin Herbert, I would have backed out. NFL Week 4 is another challenging week with only one obvious team to pick to win. The Green Bay Packers are 9.5-point favorites at home against a Patriots team expected to start backup quarterback Brian Hoyer. Ten of the 16 games have a betting line of three or fewer points. The second-highest spread is five points. Be sure to check out Fantasy Alarm's weekly matchup previews and the NFL Week 4 betting odds before making your survivor picks this week. Here are my top survivor picks for NFL Week 4.

NFL Week 4 Survivor Picks

1) Green Bay Packers

The Packers will likely be the most popular play this week and for good reason. They are big favorites at home against a backup quarterback. As they tend to do, the Packers started slowly in Week 1 with a 23-7 loss to Minnesota. As expected, Green Bay bounced back the next week in an easy 27-10 win against the Bears before pulling out a 14-12 road win in Tampa Bay. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense are still trying to figure things out with several new receivers in the mix. The defense is one of the best in the NFL and has allowed 22 points over the last two games.

2) Detroit Lions

Who would have thought the Lions would be a survivor pick this early? There's definite risk here, but they are four-point favorites at home against a bad Seattle team. The Lions are 1-2, but could be 2-1. They allowed 14 points in the fourth quarter last week against the Vikings in a 28-24 loss. The injury report is something to watch for the Lions, too. D'Andre Swift is likely out and there are several other key players on the injury report, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, who injured his ankle last week. The offense has been moving the ball well and the offensive line has done a good job. The Ravens lead the NFL in points with 99 and most will be surprised the Lions are second with 95 points. The Seahawks have allowed 27 points in each of their last two games.

3) Los Angeles Chargers

There's risk with this one due to the health of the Chargers and if you want to avoid completely it makes sense. Left tackle Rashawn Slater is out for the season and Joey Bosa was placed on injured reserve. Justin Herbert played with a rib injury and threw 45 passes in a loss to the Jaguars, who are better than most thought. The status of Keenan Allen and his hamstring is unknown at this time. This is more about the opponent. The Texans are 0-2-1 and lost to the Bears last week. The Texans average 16.3 points per game and average 287.3 yards per game, which ranks 28th in the NFL. The Texans have allowed 410 yards per game, which ranks 29th in the NFL.

Last week: 2-1

Season: 6-2-1
