Victor Wembanyama NBA Underdog Pick: Higher 27.5 Points
Wembanyama is playing at an MVP level. He's averaging 29.1 points, fourth in the NBA, and he's coming off a historic stretch: 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks against Dallas on Wednesday, followed by 30 points in just 26 minutes in Sacramento on Friday. He's cleared this line in five of his last seven games, including 36 in Utah and 43 against Minnesota.
His shot volume drives the case. Wembanyama has taken 18 or more shots in seven of nine games, and he's getting to the line often, with 23 free-throw attempts against Dallas alone.
The one real risk is rest. San Antonio played in Sacramento on Friday, so this is the second night of a back-to-back, and his minutes could be managed if the game gets lopsided, as they were in his 12-point night against Utah in just 24 minutes. Sengun has turned into a nightly triple-double threat. He's averaging 9.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists, or 17.3 combined, and he's cleared 16.5 in five straight games with totals of 17, 18, 18, 17 and 22. He's dished double-digit assists in each of his last two games, including 12 rebounds and 10 assists against Minnesota on Wednesday.
His workload has been heavy, with 38 and 39 minutes in his two November games, and Houston's offense runs through his passing from the post.
Phoenix is the ideal opponent. The Suns have the worst rebound rate in the NBA at 45.9% and the worst defense at 120.9 points allowed per 100 possessions. That means more rebounds available on both ends and more made baskets for Sengun to assist on.
