It is Monday so that means there is another week upon us. What is really of note here, is that it is the first full week of the 2022-23 NBA season. We have eight games on the NBA schedule tonight which is a manageable number when combing through the Underdog player props available to us. While there a lot of superstars on the Brooklyn Nets worthy of our attention, that does not mean we should ignore some of their supporting cast, and that is one spot where I am casting my attention tonight along with a rookie making his professional debut in Madison Square Garden.

Underdog NBA Top Picks October 24

Nic Claxton Over 7.5 Rebounds

With Andre Drummond now in Chicago, the previous thing in the frontcourt Nets entered this season lacking even more for options as Blake Griffin also departed this summer. That means there is simply more playing time and opportunity for Claxton, and to begin this season, he certainly has taken advantage of that.

Claxton has had to fight for playing time in the first three years of his career as the big man has also been far from a finished package while also dealing with some injuries. Last season he played in a career high 47 games while averaging 20.7 minutes and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Entering this year, the Nets did not exactly have much of a choice in asking more of Claxton, but he has proven to be up to the task. Averaging 29.5 minutes per game, Claxton has grabbed 10 and 11 rebounds, respectively. The playing time will continue and it also helps that Claxton has been successful on both the offensive and defensive boards.

Paolo Banchero Over 27.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

I could have gone in multiple directions here as Banchero has gotten off to a strong professional start, but I opted for the comfort of multiple outs. In the beginning of the season, it should not be a surprise to see lines for rookies climb slowly, and the thought process here is that it gives us something to exploit.

Banchero has been consistent through the first three games of his career averaging 23.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game which puts him over our target. Additionally, Banchero has eclipsed 27.5 in every game of his professional career. It also works to our advantage that the Magic are clearly committed to youth and rebuilding which means we do not have to worry about usage here.
