Welcome to the start of the 2022-2023 NBA season, ladies and gentlemen! With a two-game NBA slate kicking off on Tuesday, October 18th, we have a lot of juicy plays available to us on our first edition of Underdog Fantasy write-up! With the Lakers taking on the Golden State Warriors, will the Warriors, who aren't giving their starters a full compliment of run, be able to contain Anthony Davis in any facet of the game? Malcolm Brogdon is playing his first game in a Celtics jersey and boy oh boy is he going to make a good impression on his new team. James Grande breaks down his favorite plays on Underdog Fantasy across the NBA tonight. Let's dive in!

Malcolm Brogdon OVER 12.5 points

This will be a slightly different role for Malcolm Brogdon as the Celtics have him slated to come off the bench to start the year. He has started every single game since the 2018-’19 season. Since that point, he’s averaged 15.6 points, 16.5 points, 21.2 points, and 19.1 points per game.

That said, Brogdon coming off the bench could be very advantageous for both him and the Celtics here. Brogdon faces off against second units each time he checks into the game and we expect him to also finish the game with the first unit.

Brogdon is a player who has notched a 24% usage rate or better for three consecutive seasons, so even in a reduced role, something similar to what he averaged in Milwaukee, he averaged 19.4% during a three-year stint there. Brogdon is a sneaky sixth-man-of-the-year candidate and doesn’t come at me to tell me he won’t have any opportunity in Boston. He played alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.

Anthony Davis OVER 11.5 rebounds+assists

If you look at Anthony Davis and how his career has gone, he’s begun to take steps away from the basket offensively and became somewhat of a stretch big. That’s true around the whole league, really, so Davis is chasing power forwards and centers around the perimeter.

Due to those facts, Davis hasn’t averaged 10 or more rebounds per game for three consecutive seasons. He’s averaged 10.2 for his career and had a six-year stretch in which he averaged at least 10. But over the last four years, there has been a shift in his ability to pass the ball, as he’s notched 3.1+ assists per game each year. In 2021-’22, Davis averaged a combined 12.9 rebounds+assists, which is the prop we’re targeting here.

Over Davis’ last 10 games last year, he averaged 14.6 rebounds+assists/game, hitting the over in eight of those games. Davis averaged 12 R+A in two games against Golden State too. Here’s props.cash providing us with the chart on Davis’ final 10 games last year.
